I need to Strip a Fiberglass Door, so I can refinish it. The Door Manufacture Recommended the Follow Strippers. Methylene-Chloride Strippers are Against State Law, so they are not an option. Anyone used the below ones, recommendations? BTW The Door has a Oil Based Stain/Dye that just laid on the Fiberglass, and two coats of water based Varnish.
You can remove water based varnish or water based polyurethane with a 50 / 50 mix of lacquer thinner and denatured alcohol. Test it on an out of the way spot first. As for the stain - if it has penetrated the surface of the fiberglass I'm not sure that there's anything that will remove it. I have fiberglass exterior doors on my house and the instructions that came with the doors only recommended re-coating the polyurethane finish every four or five years. I guess you could try re-staining over the top of the original once the varnish has been removed. Again, try on a small spot first.
boy.....talk about letdown after reading thread title!!
Same here--not sure what that says about us huh? I mean I kinda knew what sort of stripper was involved but had to look anyway........
My personal recommendation would be talk to a local professional painter's supply outfit to get their recommendation---they'll be up to date on what's legal and best for your use.
