96 F250 w/ 460: Can the trans make the engine stall ??
I have been having this stalling issue when the engine is at full temp at low speed. Can the trans possibly be the problem? I asked this question a year ago when I got the truck and someone replied about the trans possibly being the problem. TFTS !!
Assuming you have an automatic transmission with a lockup torque converter ( E4OD ) then yes. If the torque converter is not unlocking when you come to a stop it can make the engine stall. No different than stopping with a manual transmission without pushing the clutch pedal.
Low transmission pump pressure can cause this. You can put a 0-350 PSI gauge in the trans test port and see if the pressure is dropping. Possible causes of low pressure are low trans fluid, loose/missing internal filter, leaking internal seals, or a worn pump.

So only thing I can do myself is check the filter and replace filter and fresh fluid. Correct ?
I have a 1997 F350 with 7.3 motor and when i put in reverse it will kill the motor, but if i restart it in neutral and put in reverse it works fine , so same problem a torque converter lockup ?
