TorqueShift G Trans reliability

Has anyone experienced or know of reliability issues with the TorqueShift G Trans (6r100) ? Had a 2011 F250 SC/LB 6.6, 6 Speed. Currently in a
2015 F250 SC/LB 6.2, 6 Speed. Both are great for my needs, looking to order a 2021 and question the durability of the TorqueShift G Trans.
Any info is greatly appreciated..!

Why would you question the durability? The "G" actually makes better use of the 6.2 and provides better response and fuel mileage.

My summer (unloaded) fuel mileage average is 16.3. That is a 3,300 mile average. (4.30 gearset too)

Well the 6r100 has the same flaws as the 6r80, which isn't much. Its a good trans suited to the F250, its not on par strength wise as a 6r140 or a 10r140. Its designed for a different duty cycle and load. If you want the 10 speed get a F350 with the 6.2.

I have read about shuttering while backing up with a trailer, but I have not seen failures reported.

Yes, many complaints about that. I've also seen a few complaints about clunking when coming to a stop. But no failures beyond the initial problem with the transmission line issue.

My 2015 Lariet LB has the 6r140 trans and the 6r100 is supposedly a "lighter duty" trans. Since I'm going to order a 2021, the 6r100 is now mated to the F250 6.2.

Thanks to
ford390gashog, HRTKD, Stinson1. You guys supply a wealth of knowledge and help to the "brotherhood". I think to be safe I'll spring for the
7.3L / 10 speed. No doubt the 6r100 will be dropped, shortly, and the 10r140 shift pattern reflashes and TCM learns are getting it "settled in".

On road trips, 100 miles or more, I'm starting to get a slam downshift into 4th on hills as well as the shutter in reverse. With 22k on the odometer, I'm not sold on this unit. I liked the 6r140 much better.

2019 F250 4X4; 6.2 w/ 4.30 gears. 16,000 +/- miles.

Thus far I've had no issues with the truck or the "G" transmission. Night and day improvement over my old 1996 7.5L w/4EOD transmission. While coasting at 25mph or so, I do occasionally feel some drivetrain slop that I believe is a result of the torque converter reengaging, but other than that the transmission shifts and matches the engine's torque band perfectly.

Running the interstate at 65-70 mph, the transmission runs between 199 and 201 degrees. Pulling a 7500lb trailer with approximately 900 lbs in the back, @ 65mph, the transmission runs between 199 and 203 degrees depending upon hills/traffic. I did have it go up to 205 once pulling up Afton Mountain in VA (steep hill). I like the tow/haul settings and the ability to lock out gears. Downshifting on steep grades and upon braking is also excellent.

I don't quite get the gas mileage that "acadianbob" gets (14.1 interstate and 10.3 towing - 12.3 mixed) but I also have ladder racks and generally carry a toolbox full of tools. I did go over 600 miles on a tank of gas once, but there again, it has a 48 gallon tank and I was a bit nervous the last few miles.

Unlike the 6R140, don't expect to be able to check the transmission fluid. They removed the dipstick on the 6R100. You'll have to rely on the sensors. It's the one thing that nags me, but I figured I'd just drive it and stop worrying. Heck, maybe it eliminates a source of potential contamination.

My only experience with a Ford 10-speed is with the new 3.3 ECOBoost in the Utility/Explorer. At low speed (slow) acceleration, the transmission struggles and shutters to find the right gear. Does great under heavy acceleration and once you are up to speed. Noted issues at slow starts only. I imagine it is apples and oranges as compared to the F250 10R140. The 3.3 in anemic until it winds up.

Good luck.

Can anyone compare the torqshift-G to a ZF-6?

Specifically gear hunting.

Am I going to hate the change?
