2.7 auto start stop

Does any one know if the auto start stop feature can be disabled through the computer? That's the only think I don't like about my new truck. I know I can turn it off with the button on the dash but forget it most of the time and just want it turned off!

I think I ran across a way to do that while reading the manual. I have the 5L so didn't pay a lot of attention to it.

Found where I thought I had read it.. But sorry says you can not! You have to push the button everytime you want to turn off the auto start stop.

Thanks for the help! That's all I have found too. I have been talking to my dealer and they are going to hook it to there computer when I take it out and see if they can disable it. wish I had known about it before I got the truck! I wouldn't have bought it if it couldn't be disabled.

I still think there was something else maybe in the instrument panel display there was something under engine? Maybe it was just to turn the switch on or off for if you didn't want to ever stop the stopping via the stop the stopping switch.

Can the auto stop start be defeated by shifting into neutral at stop lights & such?

Would be a lot easier to just remember to push the button to turn off the auto start/stop once per trip.

What's the obsession with defeating this system? Are you guys worried about wear and tear, is it slow to engage when you pull away, or does it make a bad sound?

I'm really curious, I haven't driven a vehicle with this system, but it sounds like a pretty smart idea to this simple guy.

It is my understanding one of the "conditions" to satisfy the shut-off is the amount of vacuum from the brake system. I found a very light touch on the brake pedal yesterday seemed to prevent mine from turning off. Of course, increasing the pedal pressure would drop it out. In heavy stop-n-go traffic on my morning commute (due to an accident), the light touch seemed to work well on level roads. I find I am getting used to the start/stop. Just hope the system is reliable long term.

I just don't like it! If the town I live in had stop lights that lasted longer do to more traffic I wouldn't be a bad thing. I live in a small town and the lights last about long enough that when it shuts down it has to restart. There's no need for it here and I don't always remember to turn it off. I want it disabled because one of to things are going to go bad. Ether the starter or the button! This is something Ford should have thought about when they designed it!

I like to put my vehicles in N at long stoplights as all you're doing is making heat when in D but not going anywhere.

I believe putting auto Trans cars in N (in specific cases) saves fuel (my hand calculated experience anyway), & strongly believe it extends the service life of the fluid & the transmission itself. In northern tier climates maybe not so much, but in the brutally hot SW, there's no way it doesn't positively affect service life IMHO. YMMV

So, I'm curious if any of you guys with this system can defeat the system by going to by into neutral. Might be part of my decision process come next spring when I will buy my next rig.

Since you have to remember to push a button to start the vehicle it shouldn't be too hard to remember to also push the disable button. JMO

I don't have the push button start! LOL Don't want to have to remember the button ether. If it were in a better spot it would be easier to remember. I leave for work at 4AM and have a million things going through my head and that button is the last thing I think about.

I think if you get it in nutria fast enough it doesn't shut down. I'll try to remember to try and see tomorrow.

I read some place that when towing a trailer the auto stop/start is disabled so maybe all you have to do is fake the truck out into thinking a trailer is connected? I searched again but could find this tidbit of information.

I don't know about the F150 transmission. In our BMW if you are stopped the transmission automatically shifts into neutral, then back into gear when you let off the brake or touch the gas. Maybe the F150 is the same?

For reference, here's what the manual says about auto-start:
