4R100 Full Fluid Change

Hi all -

I've read through flush threads involving disconnecting the trans cooler lines, but I stumbled across this video here on the forum and wanted to give it a try if there's no good reason it won't work. Seems like it'd be pretty effective at getting 95% of the fluid changed over pretty quickly and with minimal mess. If this works well, I would figure on full fluid replacement every few standard drain/refill services. Because of my intended intervals, I'm not super worried about the fluid left trapped in the cooler lines at the moment.

The video is for a 5R110, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something as to why it wouldn't work on a 4R100.

Thoughts?

- Chris

It should work on a 4R100. The pump intake is a different size so you'll need to adjust for that. And this will change the fluid in the cooler lines, too. But I think this one is easier for a 4R100:

Mark -

In the readings I've done here on the forum, your advice is generally regarded as gospel. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question.

I saw your method posted elsewhere, but did not see it in comparison to the method that I posted above. If it's your opinion that the method you linked is faster/easier/less messy/better and is the way to go, then that's the method I'll use.

Much thanks.

- Chris

The 5R110W method is nothing short of brilliant. It gets around the problem of the thermostat that is in the 5R110W. But the 4R100 does not have a thermostat. So just opening a cooler line will get as much fluid changed as the other method. Either one will change around 95% of the fluid, so it's your choice. I think the older method is just easier to do.

Mark -

I got the fluid flushed using your method yesterday. Didn't make too much of a mess hooking everything back up when I was done. Thank you for your help!

I did have a question though - since the original recommended interval was 30K, but now we're using Mercon V instead of Mercon - does that change the recommended fluid drain and refill interval?

Thanks
- Chris

I still think 30k is a good interval to change the MERCON V fluid.
