Ford e4od starts in 4th gear when shifted to “D”
I have a 1997 Ford F-250 automatic with 165k miles all stock except ts6 and s&b intake and 3 to 4 inch down
. I just bought the truck from the guy that would drive it on the weekends but let it sit for about 3weeks and said it was perfectly fine and then one day he had this problem occur and now I don’t know how to fix it. You can manually shift it to 1st and it doesn’t lock into first. You can manually put it in 2nd and it takes off perfectly fine. When put into “d” it takes almost the full throttle to take off which I read it’s 4th gear overdrive cause of limp mode. I’ve checked all the fuses and I got the codes off the truck last night. I took off the negative cables for about 5 minutes to reset the pcm but that didn’t change anything. I then have been reading for days how to fix it but yet see all kinds of things it could be. I don’t want to go buy all different parts to find the one thing it may be. I had the scanner in it and the following codes came up p0562 which is system low voltage, p1748 electronic pressure control (epc fault), p0603 internal control module keep alive memory error which I believe is from my ts6 switch, p0236 turbocharger boost sensor a perform, p0340 cam position sensor circuit fault, and p0782 2-3 shift error. When driving my speed sensor was not letting my scanner pick up on speed but told me torque. So I guess my sensor on my rear diff is bad so I know I’ll have to change that but what could it possibly throwing my tranny into limp mode but letting me have 2nd and overdrive and reverse? I’ve unplugged both sensors on tranny they seemed clean. Checked all fuses all in tact. I just don’t know what to do. I thought it was my tranny and was going to sell it cause I didn’t have the 4 grand to swap it cause I have a kid on the way. So any information to if any had the same problems or know what to do I would gladly appreciate it!

Get a voltmeter and read the voltage on the two pins that supply power.
If there is no voltage, then you need to diagnose why there is no voltage. It could be a bad fuse (did you measure that the fuses are good, or just look at the fuses?) It could be a bad wire. It could be a bad PCM, but that is a very rare failure.

Well I just checked it and soon as I pulled the plug seen tranny fluid all in the female and male plug. (12 pin plug into the solenoid) attached in the picture is the solenoid plug. Does this mean I need to drop the tranny pan and replace the solenoid along with the plug pigtail since they both have fluid through them? I checked for voltage and it read nothing. I’m assuming cause of the fluid being in there.

could it be a faulty ecm causing this problem ? If it’s bad power wires do I buy a new harness or do I need new pcm connectors. Would it be safe to go ahead and change both connector (solenoid side and mlps) ?

You could change the solenoid connector and the MLPS connectors. Once that is done then you can start to look for the cause of no power to the solenoid connector. It could be the wiring between the PCM and the connector. If so, you could run new wires. I think there is also a power relay that feeds this circuit, but I don't have a diagram to confirm that. If there is, the relay could be bad. Or it could be the PCM.

So I just wanted to post here for anyone that had the same problem. I bought a new solenoid pack and harness and as I went to change the stuff out and drop the pan I pulled every plug out to get out of the way and going from the drivers side to the solenoid plug my power wire and 2 others were completely non attached. Spliced them up and truck was good to go. Thanks mark for letting me know I just didn’t have power just took me to finding that to know why I didn’t
