i have a 2014 ford f-350. i'm trying to install a 3rd brake light backup camera for my truck camper. it comes with a toggle switch which i dont want to use. the aux switches in the truck are already fused. if i cut off the toggle switch i don't know how to hook up the wires. i know the wires for the aux switches are under the steering wheel. just not sure whether to cut the toggle off and use the hot wire to the one under the steering wheel. the camera is from Camera source and the number is CS-FTR3LSD-FI. i got the wiring from the camera to the glove box and at that end is a black wire and a red wire. i can ground the black anywhere there. the red i assume will go to the hot wire from the included harness, which has a hot and ground from the toggle switch to the one for the aux. i dont want to hook it up wrong and mess something up. i really dont want to add another switch when i have 4 unused one in the truck. i have an email to the manufacturer and Camera souce too. neither have gotten back to me. hate to take it to someone to install. thanks in advance.
The answer is very simple. You are over thinking this.
You do not need to cut anything. Follow the directions and wire up the camera and all the wires. Attach the power lead on the toggle switch to 12vdc. Turn the toggle switch on and hide the toggle switch in the dash, then button up dash. Eureka!!! Your new stop light camera works all the time when you are in reverse.
I have a similar kit on my truck from Camera Source. I use to toggle switch to flip back and for between the tailgate camera and the brake light camera. Unless I and hitching up the 5th wheel, I leave the switch on the tailgate position. I have the switch installed in the little box where the airbag switch would go down my your right knee.
but if i hook it up that way i wouldn't be able to use both cameras. the toggle is suppose to switch back and forth to both cameras isn't it? when you put the truck in reverse the tailgate camera comes on,then if you use the toggle switch the 3rd brake light camera comes on. i'd like to use both .
why not leave the toggle switch behind the glove box or some place you can gain somewhat easy access to it?....that way you can drop the glove box and flip it....or do like i did and drill a small hole in the left lower cubbie hole and mount the switch?...

I really didn't want to add another switch when I have 4 unused ones on the dash. now with wiring it up with the toggle switch, I now have to add a fuse to it. whereas the switches on the dash are already fused. If I use the toggle switch that was included I'll just throw it behind the monitor, I wont be using it.. i'd really like to hook it to one on the dash
well...cut off the toggle switch near the square black module...
Add a length of wire to get you over to the upfitter wires down by parking brake area and connect it to Violet with Green stripe wire for switch #3 (fused at 10a). Cut off the toggle switch near the square black module. Connect this length of wire from the red wire coming out the square black module. Switch 3 will be your new "toggle switch". Switch 3 will replace the toggle switch shown in the above photos.
just too be clear you are referring to the black module that has the red wire connected to the black wire to the toggle switch? also would it be good to hook it to a 10a or to the 15a(aux4). it says this camera requires 10.5 volts to operate correctly. on a 10a wouldn't blow the fuse?
do you know if i can adjust the lines on the camera or is the adjustments only for the camera on the tailgate? i don't see on the screen where i can adjust anything. it only shows off and on for camera delay and one other thing.
Not sure what you are talking about "lines on camera". Are you talking about the guidelines being the wrong length? The guidelines being skewed or twisted?
I had to "level" the stop light cam i installed. Mine was showing a ling on the bed rail and one line inside the bed. Using the "wire loop" that came in the kit, you can twist the camera in the housing by inserting the "wire loop" into the holes on each side of the camera.
that's how mine are too, just thought you could move the lines in and out, or make them longer or shorter. i bought it for backing into the camper, not sure if the lines line up for me to just back under it. havent tried that yet.
