I missed this thread in the last few days. For anyone who wants a visual on what they are talking about, I made this image for people who were asking me about VRV installation from a E4OD or Manual to C6 swap, like the OP did.
The rod needs to be slightly smaller than the concavity of the cam, but not too small that the cam will slip off it. Also, the inner diameter is around 0.09in.
Also, you can see the difference in the throttle connectors from the E4OD and C6 in my Injector pump replacement video (below). Go to around minute 5:50 to see the IP's next to each other on my bench.
This thing is running like my old 97 powerstroke up the mountain!-).
In drive the whole way. The 86 is in 2nd gear, so we’ll have some work on it soon.
However, it is stalling after a rev of the pedal or hard acceleration and quick removal of fuel pedal pressure.
this was not the case when we first started it up. We could rev it and the engine resumed a nice idle.
since have installed rebuilt bb code injectors from Mylex and a new fuel line return kit. No leaks!-)

I had one that did that when I first got it, turned out the fuel filter was full of water.
