thank you lonewolf.
i am suffering from sleep deprivation and can't remember crap the past few days.
72 hours up, 4 hours sleep, then another 24 hours up. 4 hours sleep this am and then the sun woke me up again.
if the sun is up, i am too. even if the room is blacked out, my brain still will not shut off.
the night job is finally done so after tomorrow morning i should be back to normal.

Okiedokie!-) no biggie as looks like the fresh oil change is dripping pretty good from the rear main.

any idea’s on driving it without the flex plate. Run through the trans as it was purchased used and be nice to see it and torque converter at working.

Thanks

if you have a cast flywheel you need that plate. if it is a thin steel flex plate like gas engines use, you only need the small reinforcing plate that goes around the crank flange.

Oh well. B.B. bbbummer.

Thought i might run the trans a little to see it working.

so will drop trans and add that part and get to work on the rear main.

thanks for the support

What flywheel is this?

Is this the thin one that requires the flex plate?

Thanks

Hmm. Seems like we have to remove the trans to see for sure.

well, your pictures seem to show a Cast Iron Flywheel... if that is true then it needs the flexplate.

Okiedokie!-)

Does it attach with the flywheel bolts?

when we dropped the e4odisaster, we did not remove the flywheel.

so...regardless of flywheel, these parts are presumed there.

E4OD generally has 6 Studs on the Torque converter for diesel... while the E4OD on Gassers often had only 4

I have no Idea what you had to start with... but to answer the Question ...Yes the flexplate bolts on with the flywheel bolts into the crankshaft.

AS I said generally 6 studs.... but https://shiftritetransmissions.com/s...smission-e40d/

looking at my 93 F250 which has the 6 bolt converter it seems that most really had the 4 bolt converter with the 2 piece flywheel assy... for the E4OD.. interesting

Ford probably didn't start using the 6 bolt converters until the PSD Mark Kovalsky would know more about that than I

I know my converter is Gold and I know Ford Never painted converters so mine is not OEM.

I bought this 90 F250 7.3L supercab with a non functioning e4od.
pulled it last year and it sat idle. Friend asked for some work to buy diapers and formula for the kids....
he was learned hot rodder (chevy’s)_.. and trained usmc mechanic (some ginormous vehicle)....
....”c6 4x4 trans instal.. no problem”...

back to it now and fixed the PO hot wired push button start and sometimes working glow plugs....
....broken ignition actuator and stripped out steering wheel puller threads...finally got some all thread to
weld to the steering wheel.l. Took awhile and when reassembled start wasn’t working.... tjc turned us onto neutral safety switch and we realized the tranny is up there but nothing hooked up. Lol.

The transfer case used has the wrong hookups for the linkage. Will end up with the 7.5L c6 transfer case.
hope it works. Only have a front driveshaft right now. Pic n “crush” yard moves everything with fork lift without
removing driveshafts~!-)

the rear main seal leak is actually a fuel leak....hello return lines!-)

all in all...this week.. its pretty cool to go out to the truck, open the door, turn the key, hear the glow plugs
fire and start it.

return line leak is probably better than having to do the rear seal

my truck sees a lot of Hiway driving between TX and WV so I really like the E4OD with the 3.55 gear axle when I had a C6 in an older 83 I was always looking for another gear......

if ya don't do a lot of long range driving the C6 is fine

AND yeah TJC Transport I know the sleep deprivation thing .... I can't remember when I last got more than a couple hours sleep in one session .... I think it's old Farts disease at least for me ????
