I do know that I just installed it on mine two weeks ago and for the tow time it is noticeably different. Much more power at the 3,500 rpm and higher. I have been very impressed so far. I can say that I am not a fan of the towing tune shifting when not towing but it takes too much time to switch in between so it’s just something I will have to learn to deal with. I miss the shift on the fly tunes on my 7.3.

Which number is the strategy code? Also which tunes do you guys think would be best? I usually run 87 or 89 for gas. I’m all stock except for a Flowmaster muffler. My driving is 50/50, city/highway. Around town is mostly 35-45 mph, and I usually cruise 65-70 on the highway. I don’t do any heavy towing. I do have a 2500lb slide in camper that I use most of the summer. Thanks for the help and input.

when i bought the SCTX4 from 5 Star, Mike sent it blank. he then walked me through the procedure to retrieve the computer code.
i emailed him the code the tuner came up with, and he emailed me back the proper tunes.

I had a Bluetooth OBD2 reader when I ordered mine and it read all the modules and gave me strategy code so I could order. It was gonna be a faster turn around so I found it out before I ordered.

I wouldn’t trust any paper tags regarding the strategy codes. If I understand it correctly, they may be updated by the dealer during a service. I bought a SCT GTX tuner from Five Star and it displays the necessary data. You can also get it using a ODB II reader.

They’re pretty responsive. I like that my GTX can get any new tunes via WiFi.

you will need a device to read the computer strategy codes. once you receiving the device you connect it to the OBD port. You then fill out the vehicle calibration request and submit it to 5 star and they will generate the tune for the truck and email it to you. load that on to the device and then reconnect the device to the truck and load the selected tune.

There’s so many things you can do to the truck within that tuner that it’s almost ridiculous. It takes forever to go through all of them there’s so many.

Are the canned tunes generic for most Ford vehicles or does it pull and modify the truck info?

Canned tunes are specific for your engine typically. So they may work for any 6.2 powered Ford (likely different tunes for super duty and Raptor/f150 versions).5 star has several options, and there may now be an OTA updateable option.
