Thank you everyone for the input! I welcome any learning and so I am very appreciate all around! It does seem the common denominator is the 7 PSI threshold so I will ensure it is that so I can won't impact the heater core which is original still. Here's another one, if a little off the beam from the title subject.
Make certain the hood latch and safety catch & hook hardware and the rest of it are clean, straight and lubricated and working smartly. Looks good in the pic, but this era truck the hood had a disconcerting habit of flying open at highway speed. Trust me, you will not like this one bit if it happens to you, and it tends to ruin the hood, prang the hinges, break windshields etc. Hoods are getting spendy and or harder to find/shipping.
When the hood latch is released the safety hook should pop squarely into the catch like a bear trap. If the hood flies up, you'll never trust this arrangement on the highway ever again. I drilled a hole in the hook and installed a padlock for insurance and peace of mind.
