Okay so I have recently replaced my starter on my 93' IDI non-turbo, and was able to get my truck to fire up, I let it idle for about an hour and then shut it off. After shut down I figured hey why not double check to make sure I have no other issues and try to start it up again. Went to fire it up and all I got is a bunch of clicks from the starter. I did a voltage drop check on both batteries and I found out as soon as I turn the key the voltage drops to 7.5 volts and it stays there til glow plugs click stuff the truck usually does is done, it goes back up to 12.8 volts. When the key turns to start position all I get is clicks from starter. Is that a glow plug issue itself or a relay or something else? I've been wanting to get this truck running strong for 2 weeks now and it's been one thing after another going wrong.
charge em up with a good Maintenance charger on a low amp setting for a couple days and then see if it brings em back IF not then I say your Batteries no longer have a good storage capacity.
EDIT: sometimes you can desulfate batteries and bring em back to a serviceable life but that generally takes a month or 2 on the desulfator.
If alternator checks out I'd go get the batteries charged and load tested. Sounds like one or both might have a bad cell. Most auto parts stores do this for free although I'd recommend you but replacements from Walmart. 3/5 year warranty and they're cheaper!
I was able to jump it and get it started alternator is putting out around 14.2 volts batteries where charged up and tested. Both came out good. I did notice that if I wait on the glow plugs cycle the voltage goes back up. But my wait to start light kicks off way before it starts to cycle. And I am beginning to think something is up with my ignition system at the key cause the starter tried to engage when the motor was running.
