Functionally from the shackles perspective thats a way better orientation.

I like this option as well, I'm going to look into this for myself.

I use them in conjunction with 3/4" shackles. I carried them over from the 2017 I had to the 2019 I now have. I found the factory hitch loops too small for any meaningful hooks to be used with.

And, apparently, so have lots of folks...I'm not one of them. My only real towable is a 30-foot, three-slide TT (weights about 8K empty) and the hooks that came with it fit fine. Of course, it takes a small bit of finagling but I can get them in there. The recent post with the shot of the 2020 hitch makes it seem FoMoCo fixed the problem many seemed to encounter on their rigs.

Yes i could get our work trailers safety chain hooks on my 2020.....with a bit of fanangling!!!
The 2020's are opened up a lot compared to my brother in laws 2017 for sure.
I added the hammerlocks to mine just to make it easier....if the safety catch on the hook is bend....as some tend to be, i think i'd struggle to get it on.

Got a 2020 F350 with the 2.5" hitch and my trailer's 3/8" hooks BARELY fit. I'm thinking about going hammerlocks to make things easier unless a 1/2" hook would fit better. I'm not sure if the bigger hooks would be of benefit.

Thanks for the thread.

I ordered the SS 316 bow shackle 5/8" marine grade ones from Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071252QFS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071252QFS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'll be lock-titing them in tomorrow

That marine grade bow shackle has a working load limit of only 4,000 pounds.
2 x 4,000 = 8,000
Not nearly enough to cover the bumper pull rating.
You may wish to reconsider that choice.
Thay is why I use a standard galvanized 5/8” screw pin shackle.

For those who object to the idea of them rattling, it is easy enough to zip tie them in place. No more wiggle or rattle.

Mine don't rattle at all, and I drive some pretty rough roads. I don't see how other people have rattle issues, unless they are hearing something else...

I believe that I've seen it posted here that the factory safety chain loops have been improved for 2020, but have not seen any in person. It's a good move if they did revise it.
As far as finagling to use the factory setup, I hook and unhook a trailer several times per week during my business season. I was looking for a fast and easy way.
If my shackles do rattle I sure don't hear it in the cab. Maybe because I went with 3/4" instead of 5/8" there isn't as much free play?

The edge of the tow hook loop on the hitch would cut through the synthetic rope in a heartbeat, synthetic rope is very strong but is relatively easy to cut with a sharp edge.

I say get a set of 5/8" hammerlocks and call it a day. It was mentioned in a previous thread to put them together on the bench first as it seemed to be easier to assemble them on the truck the second time. That's what I did and they went together pretty easy. I've never heard any rattling from mine and they are plenty big enough.

Hammerlocks doing their job

If you are going to install hammerlocks you can just press the pin in with a c-clamp.

I was looking into these because I have never heard of it before and they look like a good idea for other projects. The 3/8 bubba rope shackle is only recommended for 4-8k lb loads and the next size up is $180 a piece so I think I will replace my $10 3/4" shackles at the first sign of rust instead of paying that much and having the trailer hook start to fray them in a month or 2.
