Do the FE flywheels of different tooth counts have different diameters? I just replaced the bendix part on my starter and counted the teeth on the flywheel. (152)
I have to let my starter swing on the top bolt so that the teeth will engage the flywheel. I've talked about it on an old thread.
Thanks. John
Lots of ground covered there. Let's not cover that same ground again. If that's not the right one, let's find it.
You will get very few replies to a thread when the reader has to research your profile and old thread to figure out what year engine, what transmission, etc.
That's the thread with my old 390 and T-18. I still haven't figured out what is going on with the combo in my truck and just now counted the teeth on the flywheel. So, The question remains. What are the diameters of the flywheels? Are they the same but with different size teeth?

1965/76 352/360/390 flywheels: Same diameter, same number of teeth (184).
352/360 uses an 11" clutch, (6) 5/16" -18 pressure plate attaching holes on a 12 3/8" bolt circle.
390 uses an 11 1/2" clutch, (6) 5/16" -18 pressure plate attaching holes on a 12 7/8" bolt circle.
The 352/360/390 flexplate also has 184 teeth and is 14 1/2" diameter.
Nothing much new with this but it did PO'ed me enough to pull the transmission and clutch and take a better look at things. SO, older style flywheel and bell housing. Flywheel is 15 1/2" in dia.
Will be replacing the engine mounts before putting things back together. A few extra pics to share
