Ok, thanks for the info. I am pretty sure the sensor
is bad then. Because of the difference in temperature.
I will replace it. When I do I will take pictures of the location and the wire colors.

I’m currently having trouble tuning a ZF6 truck with 175/30’s. (SMOKES cold).

The ZF6 is apparently more of a challenge to tune with these injectors. I suspect this 2nd sensor may be part of that...

After spending some time today searching for more
information about what I am up against. I believe I found a clear picture of the sensor. This guy was doing his water pump and you can see the sensor.
I also believe it goes in the front cover. I will confirm this with my own pictures when I replace the sensor.
The image is not clear enough to reveal the coloring on the wires.

Yes. I’ll take a pic when I go out in a minute. I have (3) ZF6 trucks here right now and a couple loose engines...

The front cover would make sense. 6 years ago and before I knew much about this truck I replaced my water pump with an IH pump. I only remember the one vertical sensor, not two.

This will serve as a great thread for future ZF6 ECT questions. I look forward to what you find. I suspect the two sensors are the same part number, but cannot be sure.

IIRC, they are the same part #. Also the same for many other Ford products.

It has long been a mystery about exactly what the 2nd sensor does....

SkyJason if you have loose motors, could you pull the sensor and snap a picture, so we can confirm the part number. If possible?

None of the loose ones have it. This is the spot though.

Jason,
Can you confirm this. I had to replace mine a few years back and the dealership said there were two one being inexpensive and the other considerably more. Of course I had to buy the more expensive one. Either that or they caught a sucker (me) that day.

IIRC it was about $75 dealership price.

The nearest (3) trucks are ‘01, E99 and ‘00 ZF6’s.

Y’all are welcome to come look. Lol.

Its hard to take a pic in the truck. But that sensor is behind EBPS tube and looks just like the normal ECT sensor. Which looks like the Int’l one. Int’l uses a few ECT sensors depending on application...

FordTruckNoob found this thread related to your topic and I felt it should be included or at least linked here to keep everything together. I have included this thread in the 7.3L PSD Tech Folder "Engine Coolant Sensors (ZF6)" for future reference of any ZF6 owner that questions the ECT sensors, their location or if they are the same part number or not.

So those are the wire colors on a 02 6 speed.
Same as the 03 diagram. I bought the part number in these post. The plug fit. I did not remove the sensor due to the old part reading the same as the new part. Forscan is reading trans temp for this circuit. While watching trans temp, unplug this plug
and trans temp defaults to 60°. I dont know where
the EOT reading is coming from. For me it is wrong anyway. Ambient is 50° and it is reading 80°.
My baro is at 0, my trans/EOT is 11°. So the batteries are unhooked. When I power it back up
if the readings are the same, I will send the PCM out for reprogramming.
