I did have a thread about this awhile back, but I wanted to add it here just because I think it worked so well.
When I bought my truck is had dual vinyl bench seats with some awesome camo seat covers. While the covers were of great quality, they just weren't what I really wanted in the truck. A couple of years ago I scored a set of grey seats from a donor truck. Then, this year I was able to snag another 40/20/40 seat for the rear seat. I love the way it looks and the functionality of having those seats in the back. Here is a pic of how it turned out.
One of the things that has always nagged me about this truck is the door seals. Granted it is just a product of time, but the paint had worn off at the door seals to some varying degree on all four doors. I had been toying with the idea of painting a stripe to help remedy that issue, but I have never had the time to do it. Earlier this year I was able to make contact with the local high school auto body teacher. As is the usual case, if I would buy the paint, they would spray it. I was sold. I went to the supplier he normally uses and picked out a color. I ended up selecting Ford, True Blue Metallic in Base Coat/Clear.
Here is the before shot, when I dropped it off at the shop.
I pulled the fender trim, rear bumper, door seals, and associated interior trim. When they painted the stripe they sprayed the jams so we could address all of the worn areas
Here she is a week later in the paint booth. It was a TIGHT fit
They did a pretty good job of sanding and prepping and addressing any little dings. Granted, these are kids learning their trade so there was no belief it would be perfect
I feel like it turned out a little darker than I intended, but I would rather it be a little too dark than too bright of a blue. in the sun it does have a nice color to it.
I have been doing some odds and ends so here we go.
I have ave been toying with buying a Hydra to replace my DP tuner. The DP has served me well over the years but I plan to upgrade the injectors fairly soon and Hydra seems to be the best option. Cleatus12r posted 2 for sale in the classified section so I picked one up. He was great to work with and got it shipped out really quickly.
As for the tunes there are some noticeable differences. My tunes were about 10 years old and obviously there have been some upgrades over the years. I do feel like the DP idled smoother and when I push the clutch in at highway speeds to slow down the DP dropped to a dead even idle.
I am currently using the standard PHP tunes on the Hydra. The idle is not bad. It just sounds a little different than it did. Almost like it is more aggressive, if that makes any sense. When pushing the clutch in at speed it seems like it has a minor romp as it drops to idle. It kind of reminds me of a small cam in a gas motor. I do feel like the power is more linear and it smokes less than it did. It never smoked a lot but I did notice it. It can with the 3’ ribbon cable and I will probably get a 6’ cable so I can mount it in the same location my old one was in. For now it works just fine.
so, I was backing in my trailer and I navigating around a tree. Usually if my bumper comes into contact with something, the object moves and I continue on. This time I actually hooked it and pulled it into the fender. I managed to damage the fender and break the headlight trim. Joy
I have a PHP tune on my Hydra that I've used now for several years. What I like about it is the first half of the throttle its mild and good for in town. If I put my foot into it for towing its great power and wonderful shift points! I should probably upgrade it to a newer better one just to try it out. The rest of the positions are Tony, powerstruck, gearhead, etc. which are all good but I hardly ever use them. I'm sure some of the newer tunes are great.
I don’t know the vintage of your tunes, but you could always call them and see if they have updated the files and if they are willing to share the updates. I was recently reading about the Titan Unlock from PHP. It seems like a good deal for everything it includes
the top top pic was during, and the last two are finished
is it perfect? Nope. It is significantly better? Absolutely.
I also replaced both trim rings with some one from Bronco Graveyard. They went in really easily and match perfectly
I have read for quite awhile how well the relay kit from Bronco Graveyard was, so I decided to give it a try. Heck for about $35 it seemed like a good deal. I bought it the same time I bought the headlight trim so it was easy to bundle together. All in all I think it turned out really well. the kit itself is more of a universal kit rather than one built specifically for the F-series trucks. It does work well though. Out of personal preference I hooked to the passenger battery. You end up not using one plug for the headlights. I will probably use it later as a trigger for some auxiliary lighting. i ran the wires along the bottom, which made the wiring just barely reach. It did reach, but I would have preferred an extra inch or two. It works really well. I could instantly tell the difference. I tried to take a picture with the passenger side hooked to the relay and the driver still on the old wiring. The pic doesn't do it justice. I did not have to drill any new holes. I was able to use the existing grounds and two pre-existing holes for the relays. The holes for the relays were already threaded, so I just found the correct bolt used it
