Jody said he has seen it happen with a couple of trucks where a pedal change causes it to become over sensitive. I had to change because my pedal was a one plug unit so you can't change the Idle Validation.

ya it’s the idm....I never changed my pedal
but it was so twitchy. I hated it. It got a little better the second time I installed the chip but it’s still noticeable. I’m not paying another 150$ for “custom” tuning on a 300$ chip to make a pedal work properly.
No offense to the guys at PHP though they are very helpful and not a bad thing to say about them personally.

So someone put silicone on the IDM circuit board? Was it original or did you change it? I did replace the IDM once before

I’m sorry my mistake, it’s the ecm pcm whatever next to the clutch pedal on the inside of the cab with the pins facing forward through the firewall. Not the IDM idk what I was thinking.

WOAH! HOLD IT!

There is some nomenclature confusion here. The Hydra did not get installed in the INJECTOR DRIVER MODULE (IDM). The Hydra will only fit in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

1. There is no place to "chip" the IDM.
2. The IDM sucks to remove because it's "inside" the left front fender.

Not the OP's fault - it happens a lot. But the IDM has nothing to do with this discussion. I was letting it slide from the beginning as some people are not as obsessive about nomenclature as I am (Ford never made an "Extended Cab") but since we now have another member confused by it I thought I better stop the train now.

maybe its made really more toward auto trucks ...
I paid 300$ for it and now I gotta pay 175$ for Tunes
I know go fast ain’t cheap but .....dang man
Here's my sincere advice for you, from one of the many voices of experience in this forum: Keep your truck 100% stock. If $475 for a tuner and custom tunes makes you say "dang man" then powerstroke modification is NOT the game for you. It's a very expensive hobby and if $500 strains your budget then you do NOT have the budget to start modifying your truck. Wait until you have the money to spend to do things right because if you start cutting corners, your truck is not going to be reliable. Just the maintenance and upkeep on this truck gets expensive, between the $100 oil changes, tires, brakes, and misc. stuff that breaks - water pump, oil cooler o-rings, fuel leaks, etc.

In fact it's debatable whether a PSD is even suitable for a daily driver especially if it's your only vehicle. For most people in this forum, their truck is a 2nd or 3rd vehicle.

If I was you, before you get rid of the hydra, you can try out just 1 custom tune and see how you like it. Now would be the time to buy with black friday and all going on. I'd recommend Jelibuilt or 1023 tunes.

For example, Jelibuilt has a deal where you can get 1 tune for $40 right now.

it doesn’t strain my budget...I just don’t wanna dump money into a 20 year old truck with almost 300k miles...... and really I just wanted a little more “go” out of it. I’m not trying to build a 1000 hp truck lol. Also it’s only job in life is to tow the boat to the ramp and trash to the dump on the weekend which it does flawlessly. The rest of the time it sits. I researched other tuners and the majority of info I landed on said dp or hydra so that’s what I bought....I don’t like the way it makes the truck run and I simply don’t wanna spend any more $ modding it. It runs like a top the way it is so I’ll just leave it be.
thanks for the reply though

I don't have a 6 speed but I wonder if it is the same for auto, besides shifting? I know my DP Tow tunes and Econo have different shift points and strategy but they seem to also run different in the same gear if you switch from one tow to the other or to econo or modified stock.

This is one of the many reasons it took me nearly a year to find our ZF6 truck.

The ONLY time I second guess getting a ZF6 is in bumper to bumper traffic. Even then it is not too bad.
