Thanks for the input. I'm going to contact Dusty at 1023 Diesel today and check on my options on the HPOP & valve body. If those two mods don't clear up the temp issues when towing, I am thinking about the possibility of swapping the turbo housing from the .84 to a 1.0. I have heard that this can drop EGT's around 200 degrees, but it does cut back on the responsiveness of the truck due to requiring a little more time for the turbo to spool.

CNC stage 1 or Bosch new HPOP are tied for first choice with Diesel Site Adrenaline being in third are the only choices I would go for a HPOP if/when I need to replace mine.

I am not sure what your commitment level is for getting the turbo system into shape. I am not regretful I took the path of the modified stock turbo, but wish I had figured out my correct path a long time ago.

Some light reading for you if you are searching for a change in the turbo department...

Part of the problem is the 3.73 gear and the 60mph. That's borderline if not under the turbo. You could correct a bit of that with shorter tires. The 1.00 ex housing is going to help and some sort of compressor wheel upgrade will help too....having run all sorts of modified stock turbos and van turbos....the best bang for you buck will be either a Borg Warner SXE T4 or a KC Tirbo drop in. I lean to a 364.5 SXE....game changer as far a egt control goes.

I agree with SkySkiJason. I would have no problem slapping on a modified VB at that mileage.

Bought my truck with 146K on the odometer and the 4R100 was rebuilt/replaced at 120K. Put a Factory Tech VB on not long after purchase (about 160K). I had 174K trouble-free miles on my 4R100 (160K with the VB) and it was still going strong when the truck got totaled.

Thanks Sous & Dan! Yes I am leaning towards the CNC Stage 1 HPOP. And the turbo I am running is a KC 300X. According to Dusty, it should be able to push more air than any upgrade that I, personally, would ever plan to do. Guess I will talk to them about the upgraded valve body as well.

Definitely. You will want your tuner to know about the modified VB.

I won't pretend to know all of the inner workings of an automatic transmission, but one thing is for sure, a slipping transmission is generating heat.

When I bought my truck at 90k, the shift between second and third was really sloppy. However, I really didn't know how a Superduty was "supposed" to shift, so I didn't do anything about it right away. 10k miles later I put in the JW valve body, and was blown away by the difference. 80 thousand miles later it is still shifting solid. I am not sure the transmission would have lasted until now if I hadn't done that.

In retrospect, I think the previous owner might have been concerned about the transmission and sold the truck right before the factory powertrain warranty expired. I can't say that I blame him.

I can't recommend this valve body strongly enough. I was also blown away when I saw how much bigger the 6.0 cooler is than the original 7.3 cooler. I would now feel confident towing just about anything with this truck.
