HELP what injectors

I am looking at injectors and wondering which way to go. i want a little more out of my truck. i have an f6 chip, ifinity programer, is their a better stock injector? or do i go to stage one,and what else does that intail, how about the full force ones from Dp, i see they say to up grade fuel system. and that they can program the injectors. im guessing single shots are better than splits.and go with remans or new

I should just type up a Word document and cut and paste every time one of these threads comes up.

New, new, new.....Unless of course you want practice swapping injectors out then by all means put remans in it.

I think the consensus lately has been exactly what Mr. Jetdoc said......

AND.....

Select an injector to meet your goals and needs for both power and reliability

Select your tuner for said injectors even more wisely than the injectors....

Decide on what Hp level you are wanting at the end of your journey.

New, just like jetdoc said. Wear on the injector translate to metal parts being worn away. A new part inside an old body does not add metal to the old body to make the clearances like new again.

Are you having an issue with your stock injectors, or are you just looking to upgrade?

Despite what the 'old boys club' has to say, many others (myself included) have had good luck with re-manufactured injectors. While the failure rate is reduced considerably with new injectors, they are no exception.

There are a few reputable shops out there with Swamps, Rosewood Diesel and Unlimited Diesel being the most popular. I personally got mine from Rosewood Diesel as I found Jim very knowledgeable and willing to work with me on a budget.

Give those shops a call and pick their brains. While I love the community over here on FTE, there is more knowledge to be had from pros that work on these for a living versus the weekend warrior.

Far from a 'weekend warrior' here. I turn wrenches for a living. If I spend a thousand dollars of my hard earned cash on a product I expect to be right the first time.

It's your money, do with it what you will.

I didn't mean to insult anyone here. My comment was meant in terms of experience with 7.3L powerstrokes and their related parts specifically. Hell, I worked at a dealership for a few years and currently maintain a farm fleet in my free time. However, I am by no means an expert when it comes to our trucks.

You're absolutely right though, it's your money to do with it what you will. If the added cost restores your confidence in that product to perform as it should, then by all means. I certainly wouldn't want to be stranded because of a cut rate product. I personally decided to put my trust in someone I feel is a quality rebuilder, but that is my own accord to follow. If that trust is ever deemed to be misplaced, I will gladly eat my words.

I went with Swamps 175/146 on stock nozzles with Gearhead Tunes and although I am happy with the power increase and the way the truck runs. I wish the injectors weren't as loud when idling. Originally I was running Swamps tunes but the tranny shifts were wack and it idled louder. (Annoyingly louder)

So I gave Gearhead a call and put some of his tunes on the Hydra. His tunes made a big difference, but still I wish it was quieter.

If I had to do it all over again I would go with New Split Shots.

Not sure what HP level you want, but if you are just wanting a bit more power. Split Shots in my opinion are the way to go.

I only gained .05 mpg going from splits to singles. Food for thought.!!!

I went with Full Force Reman AD injectors but only have like 500 miles on them thus far so nothing to report on longevity yet.

My early99 had AB's in it so I just went to AD's.
I just wanted like new and like the idea that if one does go out I can still walk into any store and buy an injector to get rolling again. If you go BIG you have to deal with mailing it in and waiting with a down truck.

I also did a Meling m208 LPOP and t500 HPOP at same time to go with the hydra. I Just finished rebuilding turbo last night. Now to put on some miles....

The "Pros" don't always live with the results - we do. Pensecola Diesel is a fine example of "professionals". They would have no idea how much work was done as a follow-up to their work, or by whom.

Another matter - there are a number of pros (who also live with their results) on the forum, ready to jump in when somebody is being led astray.

I'm not implying the forum is the ultimate word in how to make decisions on your truck, but we shouldn't be counted out just because many of us don't get paid to turn wrenches on the 7.3L. We do, however, pay to wrench on our own trucks, and we don't take bad choices lightly.

"Experience" is simply the name we give our mistakes.

Random Thoughts......

Here is my thought process regarding remans vs. new in 2014.....and I may be way the heck off base here....but...

While I know there are many success stories with remans as well as horror stories, to which the "fix" is usually redoing the job at great expense in either $, time or both. Add in the down time of your rig if you use it for business etc. and it is not an ideal situation as Tugly mentioned.

Guys that installed remans say 3-5 years ago etc. and author the success stories of 50K+ trouble free happy miles were probably dealing with cores that were oh....6-8 years old maybe......in 2014 those same remans might have been built on cores more like 10-12 years old or more with a crapload more duty cycles and winters put through them.....so what are the chances you get 8 remans that will be flawless for 60-100K miles in 2014? I say the odds are slipping toward eff it.....go new and avoid the risk.

Of course then we get back to "what if I want hybrids" then I have to go reman......well sorta, but not really, it just raises the price a ton. For most, yeah, you are probably playing the game of which builder do I trust more.

In general I place my money on bets where I feel the odds are in my favor, and for the goals of the average injector replacement, I currently like the odds of new vs. remans in 2014.

Again, wtf do I know.........

its along the lines, but....how can a hpop failure, be contributed to a reman injector, just installed i might add, tip falling into the engine, wiping out the piston? its whats being "derailed" to not be held accountable...
