Been thinking about getting a 38r cause i'm tired of the surge and might as well upgrade. But didn't know which should come first injectors or turbo? what you guys think what injectors u recommend daily driver tow occasionally. got a f5 tuner. Also where is the cheapest place for a 38r? thanks guys!
The 38R runs great with stock injectors, plus has plenty of room to grow with larger injectors too.
As for injectors, what's your power goal? With the right setup and tuning, just about any injector can be good for daily driving and towing. It just depends on how far you want to go, and what supporting mods you're willing to pay for to hold that kind of power reliably.
You can defintiely "grow" into a 38r, I did that with my van turbo, but truthfully promply outgrew it when I put in the 238cc stix... You never know....
I went with a 38R first. Like Pocket said, it'll work with stock injectors but be ready for more. I'm going up to Stage 1's next spring probably. I don't race my truck, so the 238 Hybrids most people recommend would be overkill for me, and a wasted $1400 more. Figure out how you'll use the truck to determine the injectors you'll use first; that'll help sort out the other details for you.
Ok guys thanks a bunch. The 38r is just drop in ready? Ok what about the 1.15 housing and the EBV stuff? Are they necessary? The only racing i'll do is at stop lights so not trying to build a race car Just want it to run good and be able to show up the cummins and duracrap whose boss on the way to mud runs. Thanks guys
You must either use your old exhaust housing with EBPV or get the 1.15 or 1.0. Your stock housing is a .84. If you are going to be towing go with the 1.15 to better control EGTs and delete the EBPV actuator in the turbo pedestal. If you will not be towing go with a non-EBPV 1.0 for a bit quicker turbo spooling and delete the EBPV actuator. MHOs.
