Since April, my wife & I have traveled well over 20,000 miles chasing 70* weather and finding incredible trails for the Polaris. The truck has packed the Camper and Towed the Cargo Trailer all the way, performing flawlessly. We've had such a great time we've decided to go full time. Yesterday we ordered a new 40' Mobile Suite 5th Wheel, it should be ready sometime in February. Hopefully & fingers crossed, that'll give us enough time to sell what we need to, and find a new Truck. Right now, there are enough 450 Platinum's out there to choose from, I'm sure to find one that fits our needs. Money aside, do ya'll feel the new
20' 6.7 is worth waiting for ?
Awesome! We go full time in less than two weeks. I went with the 2019 as I don’t want the new ten speed transmission. Others will say it is awesome and the torque and HP increases are worth the wait. The 2019 450 platinum checked all of my boxes and got me to full timing faster.
I waited for the 2020 because of the 10 speed transmission. The 1,050 bump and the new internal engine Improvements were a no brainer to me. The new engine updates coupled to a new 10 speed trans that should hold the sweet spot throughout, there was no way I was buying a 19’.
Why buy a brand new old truck?
Downside is a larger than normal price increase, and the wait.
I'd put it another way, If your going to be at the higher end of the towing capacity spectrum then the 20' may offer a bit more "gump" but there is nothing wrong with 19's and their proven powertrain.
I traded in my 18 F350 Limited DRW for a 19 F150 Platinum. Previously to my F350 I had a 17 and 18 F250. Here is my opinion which has me torn. All 3 Super Duty trucks performed superbly. 6.7 coupled to the 6 speed. I towed a 35’ Montana and a 40’ Fuzion up and down hills and all over with no issues. I don’t like this new F150 because the 5.0 couples to the 10 speed is always searching for gears. Last week I towed my motorcycle on an alum lite trailer about 500 miles. It stayed in 8th gear and was always searching with or without tow mode. Keep in mind that trailer with bike weighed under 1500lbs. Occasionally I would get into 10th gear but only a few times. Without the trailer that 10 speed shifts from 1st, 2nd and then jumps to 5th. I read it’s meant to optimize gears and do that but it doesn’t feel smooth. With all that being said I have ordered a 2020 Platinum Tremor Pkg but it’s taking all my will power not to snag a great deal on a leftover 19. I doubt I will miss the extra torque but that 10 speed has me concerned.
I went with the 2019 F450 as I know too many folks that aren't happy with Ford's 10sp in the F150. I came from a 2017 F350 CCSB with the 6.7, and the 17-19 PSD has plenty of power, no issues pulling with the 6speed and walked away with a great trade & great price (picked up early Sept). I do like the 2020 grille and the addition of TPMS to the F450, but wasn't enough to wait, and the PCO saved me plenty to add a TST TPMS for truck & trailer and then some.
I was debating the same, 2019 F350 XLT or order a 2020 Limited. I know the 'new' 6.7L is going to have additional HP (450-475) and additional TQ (935-1050) but I don't know if your really going to notice the change unless possibly your towing something really heavy, all the time.
Don't get me wrong, I'm here with ya all and love me the new Super Duty's as much as the next person, but that also got me back in 2003 with the 6.0L Diesel. Ford ended up buying that truck back due to all the issues they had with that new engine.
Everybody's situation is different as well, me I was looking for something that I could plow with (Super Cab, short bed) and still use as a business truck. And I was lucky to come across a dealer that isn't about playing all the games and gave me a strait forward OTD price.
Maybe as the wife and I get older and fully retire, we'll get another DRW Limited as I'd like to see the country after having worked my entire life seeing the inside of an office.
i had a raptor with the 10 speed prior to my super duty, 1st half ton i had in 10 years. Loved the ride on the fox shocks!. between the 10 speed and sound of the V-6 it had to go! Also start stop is button is maddening
[QUOTE=UGA33;18906934]Money aside, internal engine improvements on the 6.7 alone would warrant a 2020 over a 2019 for me. 10-speed would also help that decision.[/QUOTE

A lot of the guys I know running the 10-speed are pretty happy with it. Have a couple who aren’t satisfied with it. The Start/Stop feature can be shut off permanently with Forscan.
Chnkr,
You bought a solid truck in 2019. I’m just answering the OP’s question.
Now given the choice between the two, when major updates are now available? 935 vs. 1,050?

My wife drives a new 10 speed in our 2019 Expedition Platinum. 7-19 build date. Love it..
I’m not sure what the complaints are about, but it shifts flawlessly. It does what it’s suppose to do, with five programs available to alter the input conditions.
It keeps RPM is the same position with seamless shifting. Almost 20 MPG on a 6,000 lb. vehicle with 900 miles on it? It can only get better.
Possible software update with program difference?
Doesn’t really matter, the ten speed in the new 2020 is a completely different unit that will have a different transmission shift program.

For those who have the maddening auto shut off in other vehicles, there is a very simple and cheap solution to end PITA shutdowns. www.autostopeliminator.com for $100, plug it in to the OBD port, and problem solved. Also, there is a hard wire option that mounts behind the screen for those who want to keep their OBD port open for other accessories.
Love the pics! What will you do with the General when you full time in the DRV? Or did you order the Full House toy hauler version? Anyways, I would be on the side of waiting for the 2020. Order it the way you want as you're going to be spending a lot of time in it and won't want compromises...
Before anything else, I would suggest making sure the MS is standard with the 2” lift.
All newer models are supposed to be, but cheaper before build ($300) then after build ($2500)
