My 2011 6.2 had bad shift flare 2-3-4. They could never fix it and even replaced the valve body. But that plus a programmer made it where you had to try to get it to flare.
Anyways I let the guy who bought it from me know so he wouldnt freak out if it happened.
Wouldn't let it discourage me from buying a first year but they do have real issues sometimes. My 2015 f150 was fine except for the door/water issues that still seem to happen. The build quality on that truck was better than my 2019 and they actually fixed the door leak issue that was shorting it out. They tell me the same thing is normal on my 2019.
I still think it is too bad they did away with the ZF6 back in 2010. Aside from being a little noisy and having reverse geared too high it was a very simply and durable option.
Another thought...since this the F series trucks are literally Fords most important products they sell (ie...highly popular and highly profitable) then they will be sweating the details on the engine and transmission. They may screw up things like electrical connectors or door lock mechanisms but they will very likely get the engine and transmission right.

!9 Platinum . I got a okay deal. I could not wait my 17 was a new model and it was a headache.I will wait for 2022 then I will get another one.
[QUOTE=SuperDuty Wannabe;18906539]Since April, my wife & I have traveled well over 20,000 miles chasing 70* weather and finding incredible trails for the Polaris. The truck has packed the Camper and Towed the Cargo Trailer all the way, performing flawlessly. We've had such a great time we've decided to go full time. Yesterday we ordered a new 40' Mobile Suite 5th Wheel, it should be ready sometime in February. Hopefully & fingers crossed, that'll give us enough time to sell what we need to, and find a new Truck. Right now, there are enough 450 Platinum's out there to choose from, I'm sure to find one that fits our needs. Money aside, do ya'll feel the new
20' 6.7 is worth waiting for ?
[QUOTE]
You got serious payload and a tow too!
I was faced with same challenge (not the full time thing) and YES I think the 20 is worth the wait, I have a '20 F 450 KR on order now. 10 sp trans, CHECK, 1050 Torque, ehhh not so much, 3rd GENERATION engine...HELL YEA!!!
Dogma..
I guess that does work for some..feeling secure and safe, while foregoing the experience of driving something totally new and improved., I’ll never ever buy into that theory and spend good money on the outdated so-called “proven” stuff when the new advanced products and updated styling are now available.
I’ve consistently waited for the new stuff my entire life, and enjoyed the experience of owning it while others may play it safe and buy something that now looks outdated.
Ford garages all over the country are servicing broken “proven” vehicles as we speak...
And that’s why each of us have a choice, and we can make them individually.
There's been generations of proof that first year vehicles are more problematic. I could sit here for hours and google all makes and models for examples, but I'm just not that into it. If you've had good luck, well then good for you...seriously. The OP read it and now he has to make the decision. I already bought my (non-first year) truck.
I don't think so. All the shots of the 2021 F-150 look like the same current cab. It costs $$$$$$$ to engineer a new cabin and I bet it stays the same until the next gen in 2026.
F-150 gets a hybrid and EV model; don't hold your breath for Superduty versions.
I tend to agree with that. Based on past generations of the Super Duty, Ford has done face lifts with interior changes and of coarse powerplant changes, more often than a complete new platform. Interior refreshes are huge, they give that feeling of a new and updated vehicle. Now that they have made some powertrain changes and face lift (although minor), next will most likely be a complete interior refresh. Hard to believe they would jump on that too soon though. That would just make the 2020 MY a one off if they do anything major in 2021.
I love my 19 so far. No issues at all at 27k miles. Unless you just absolutely want the new upgrades i would say wait a year or so. I know it's easier said then done for sure!

The trendy thing now seems to be a large touch screen display, which I’m sure will make it into Ford’s F-150 interior.
While shopping, I had the opportunity to try out a Ram. Very sharp interior, with the screen as the centerpiece. Aesthetically impressive, but very distractive to use while driving.
What they have done was simply remove buttons and replace that area with touch.. While the large screen does look impressive, the camera area is the top half where nothing is gained.
Looks great, but I think I’d much rather have non distractive hard buttons that can be used without looking, rather than electronic touch. I guess we will see if Ford thinks it’s appropriate for the SD’s commercial use. My guess is that if it does make it to the SD, look for it to be offered in the Limited only.
I would also expect a new interior next year. If Ford updates the 150, it only makes sense to build a single interior design between the 150 and SD.

Pure Dogma, totally driven by generations of FOMO and buyers spite when it comes to something actually superior next year.
The only issue one can remotely come up with for the Superduty that fits your thinking was the 6.0L... and even though the engine was problematic, it was never fixed in year 1- 2-3-4 or 5, until they finally addressed the structural issues with the 6.4L.
Waiting “5” years still didn’t insure the new owner wasn’t going to face the same issues as year 1.
Ford’s engineers learned a very expensive and valuable lesson, don’t you think?
2020, 9 million mile reasons to think they did.
