I believe that 2018 and up is free and 2017 is around $100. If you go to the link for the update,( https://syncnavigation.com/ford/home ) enter VIN and radio esn#, it will give you your options.
I have successfully connected the truck (2019 F-250 purchased on 11/30/2019) to my home wifi; I've turned on the Automatic Updates feature inside my Sync3 system. I get a rotating circle graphic and text stating it is searching for available updates. However, it never stops! The Ford.com guy I was chatting with wasn't any help - told me my Sync3 had the latest version and build. I still have problems with Waze showing a speed about 10 mph higher than the truck's speedometer when I use it via Apple CarPlay. Funny thing is, it works fine when NOT plugged in. I also tried my wife's iPhone and it did the same thing. We tried it in her 2019 Subaru Ascent with Apple CarPlay and it works flawlessly.
I've read that updating the Sync3 will fix this issue, but Ford is telling me an update doesn't exist for my truck....annoying!
Anyone have suggestions on how to update the software (not just the map) correctly?

Updates are sent out to owners randomly so just keep checking.
Yes, other owners of the same year and model of your vehicle might have received said update already but all owners don’t receive the update at the same time and I think the reasoning for this is to stop the system from crashing because of everyone downloading and uploading at the same time.
Ford / SYNC learned this lesson back in 2017.
Also, WiFi updates are not the most reliable but they do work for some owners.

I have a quick question about the number of files created on the USB when you download the file. I downloaded the free upgrade and had the files setup on a USB drive. Other than the fact it took ages to get the files, and the instructions were rather vague on the number of files downloaded and when unzipped. I want to make sure I didn't miss any files.

The domain "call24.com" suggests an answering service business in California. This is not a Ford Motor Company domain.
I contacted Ford@call24.com, and they don't answer any questions about downloads.
this are the the files on my USB, are the similar to these:
SyncMyRide (file folder)
autoinstall.lst
dontindx.msa
and inside the SyncMyRide file folder
7 .TAR file extension files
does this number of files look correct to you. I hope so anyway. Next step takes an hour in the Truck to install.
