I tried a different stick, no luck. Looks like my USB ports are messed up. Bummer..
If your iPhone and CarPlay work through the same USB port, how could the actual USB port be messed up.
Believe it or not, some USB sticks will not work with the USB port in Ford trucks.
I tried three different brands before I found one that would work.
I tried Samsung and SanDisk and neither one would work but I tried Verbatim and it worked perfectly so now that’s all I use for any SYNC 3 updates and don’t use it for anything else.
I did mine today, and no problems. Well, once I stopped trying to download the files on my stupid laptop. For some reason, my laptop would not download the files. I went to my desktop, and it took about 20 minutes. The actual update once I created the USB took about 45 minutes. Two restarts of the Sync system, and restart the truck after the updates were done.
If you read the two help files, everything should go smoothly.
Given the trouble that some of the guys on the F150 forum had with the map update, I'm hesitant to do it.
After going through that thread the issue for the F-150 seems to be that the new map version (NA 1 18) does not display correctly (but actually installs fine) in SYNC 3.3 if updated (and not factory installed). Given that Ford is still installing the old SYNC 3.0 APIM in the 2019 SD this shouldn't be an issue for anyone doing this on an F-2/3/4/550.
It installed just fine for me on my 2019 F-450 running SYNC 3.0.19250. Was not pleased that they wanted over $100 for a download for our 2017 Explorer so I skipped it on that vehicle.
Yeah exFAT formatted. The USB port has been acting up with CarPlay, it’ll work, but won’t charge. Keep getting the this accessory is not supported error message on my iPhone. Tried a new Apple cable, phone, same error. Ordered a new Ford USB transceiver to see if that’ll fix it.
I installed the 1.18 map update on my 2019 F250 just fine. Works perfectly. Now on my wife's 2019 Ford Edge, it said it installed, but still shows 1.17, and its supposed to be 1.18
This is the error that the F-150 guys were getting when installing onto one of the "new" SYNC 3.3 APIM's. The 1.18 maps installed, but it isn't showing the version correctly. Supposedly this will be fixed in SYNC 3.4. The 2019 Edge has the new 3.3 APIM, for some reason the 2019 SD has the "old" 3.0 APIM, which doesn't have enough storage to take SYNC versions 3.2 and up.
I don't know how you guys put up with the OEM NAV. My wife's Explorer has it, its so terrible we only ever use Gmaps or Waze. The routes it picks are almost always the worst way you could go, the maps are crap and never up to date, even the latest one is still years behind. I don't think I'll ever be buying an OEM nav again when there are so many better, free options out there. The hands free integration with Google Assistant is years ahead of the OEM hands free as well. Seems like the manufacturers are admitting defeat and using Google Assistant in a lot of their newer headunits now anyways.

The OEM Navigation has never led me wrong but both Apple, Waze, and Google maps have.
With that being said, I’m sure people have Apple, Waze, and Google maps just like me and I’m sure they use them along with the OEM navigation.

My 2017 had nav. Just bought a 2019 without this $570 option. After the last update fiasco with the radio in the 2017 I want nothing further to do with Ford's updates. I've got a Garmin that I can update for free and use on the few instances I need navigation and it sure did not cost $570.
This is a map update so you won't get it ithrough your truck WiFi. You have to go to the website and put in your truck's VIN and sync esn to see if you need it.
If you do, you have to download the update and put it on a USB drive to install.
So any idea what it’s updating when it says it’s doing updates?
is there a video on this manual update process?
i just found this....so I guess some of us don’t know you can get automatic updates. I have my truck setup to join my home network. When I start my vehicle and see that it’s doing and update....I give it a minute to finish the update.
either I have been wasting my time...or I have automatic updates.
so wait, your saying the 2019 SD doesn’t have enough memory to support Sync 3 updates past 3.0????
Appears so, unless they release one specifically for the older APIM. 3.2/3.3/3.4 won't install on this APIM. The map update was also different for the newer APIM as well.
