Sucks doesn't it. Dead man walking Fusion gets the new one and we get the old one.

With that being said, I’m sure people have Apple, Waze, and Google maps just like me and I’m sure they use them along with the OEM navigation.

I also have and use Sygic and MapQuest.

Nothing wrong with having several choices.
The NAV in my 2016 F150 would create weird routes every now and then and it was completely useless in Las Vegas... the Ford NAV loved u-turns for some reason.

Other than that I used it all the time and I still looked for a truck already equipped with NAV when I got my 2019.

i just found this....so I guess some of us don’t know you can get automatic updates. I have my truck setup to join my home network. When I start my vehicle and see that it’s doing and update....I give it a minute to finish the update.

either I have been wasting my time...or I have automatic updates.

Those are OS level updates/bug fixes etc.

It does not update the actual map data.

I wonder if anyone has tried to update their vehicle with the newer and most current APIM or if this is even possible.

I know the Ford dealer won’t do it let alone program it so I guess it’ll be up to someone or some aftermarket company to try or look into this.

Later this year, PAC is coming out with a kit that’ll finally enable owners who want to remove the eight inch OEM head unit and replace it with an aftermarket unit.

If you can get your hands on a GEN 3 SYNC 3 3.2/3.3 APIM from something like a 2019 F-150/Edge/Fusion you should be able to install it and program your VIN and options into it using Forscan similar to those doing the SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 upgrade.

I don't think I'll ever be buying an OEM nav again when there are so many better, free options out there. The hands free integration with Google Assistant is years ahead of the OEM hands free as well. Seems like the manufacturers are admitting defeat and using Google Assistant in a lot of their newer headunits now anyways.
It's actually simple.... We don't live at the same place and don't all speak English. AA for me it's just buggy all the time .... Doesn't have temperature Wich is dumb , have to get out to put FM , makes my phone hot as hell and if I leave my phone in the console , I lose GPS sometimes... So it's not perfect. OEM maps are FAR better looking for me and I like the directions behind the steering. It also understand french. The best for me is OEM NAV with my phone paired on Bluetooth with waze activated without a destination. That way it will alert me of something ahead

I just ordered the NA1-18 update memory stick for my 2017.
It came early the next morning and took about 1 hour to update.
Seems to be working fine.

I’m an iPhone / CarPlay man so I can’t speak for Android Auto users but if anyone is interested in another alternative navigation that’s free, check out Magic Earth Navigation on the App Store.

it takes awhile to download all of North America onto your phone because it’s over 15 GB or you can just choose which States you want.

Yes, it works very well with Apple CarPlay..

in addition to the stock navigation in my 2016 F150, which I thoroughly enjoy using, I also like to try and use others hence the reason I added Magic Earth Navigation.. That brings my total to (6) six different ones that I can use in my F150 through the stock eight inch screen and one, MapQuest that does not use the screen for a total of seven.

Just installed mine ...I had the 16 maps and now the 18 maps in my 2018 after about a 50 minute install. Saw some new roads on a short drive.

The site has a tendency to go down and come back up. Keep trying, you'll catch it eventually.

You're right, site is now back up, however when I went thru the vin and esn check process and elected to download the update, it gives you no download link. And the order confirmation email I got has a download link that's not valid either.

Must have missed something, I entered my VIN & ESN and got the option for the free download. Went through the order screen and got a confirmation email but no link to download the file. The confirmation email just redirects me back to the screen to input the VIN & ESN over again. Where do you download the file?

Same here. Says order complete but no download and email confirmation just send you in circles. No phone link available even though it says 8 to 8 open a eastern time.

I did my F350 yesterday. The first time, it recognized the usb stick and after a couple of seconds, said the update was complete and to key off and on. I did and the Sync screen was blank, but the radio played. I did a reset and got my Sync display back. I tried one more time and it was successful.

I then tried to get the update for the wife's F150 and like those above, I didn't get a download page for the update or the license file, it goes to the $40 usb order page. Guess I'll call Monday.
