I found a few mentions of similar symptoms on the 4R100 but it would happen when warm. Mine seems to be only when cold/first started.
I'm 99% this didn't happen when I bought the truck at 130k miles because the trans was bone dry. Now at 170k my pan bolts are regularly coated in ATF and no, it's not the pan gasket. It's coming from higher and running down the side.
I've never even seen a 6R140, much less worked on one. I can't help with this problem.
On the day I left Ford there was a big buzz in our office because the first 6R140 prototype was being assembled in the prototype garage. I didn't bother to go see it. I was done there.
2019 for the start of the thread ain't THAT long ago....what was the outcome????
This problem is seemingly obscure but excellent tech for others if the fix is posted. I know *I* would sure love to know since I have the same problem!
Original poster never posted the outcome other than he was considering replacing with a different year trans. I believe the 2011 6r140 is a year all by itself for some reason, wont interchange.
