Hey. I have a 2011 F-350 Super Duty with ~98k miles - First time Super Duty owner. During the summers I regularly tote our 5th Wheel which when loaded is 12-14k lbs depending on the distance/length of trip. I am the 3rd owner, so I don't have all the vehicle history. Prepping for summer travel. Brake pads look like they are getting a little thin both front and back. I am going to replace at least the pads.
Thoughts on replacing both rotors and pads same time or just pads? From the looks of it, these are original rotors, but I don't see any major grooves, or warping.
Which brake pad brands are good for heavy towing and same for rotors? I've looked at PowerStop, who seem more interested in selling rotors and pads vs just pads. Also looked at other brands from major auto parts retailer. Hard to tell which ones last and hold up and are good.
Our F350 is used primarily to pull our 16K 5ver and on my last two trucks I've used Performance Friction (PFC) Carbon Metallic pads on stock rotors. I've tried other brands with no luck, they may be fine for none heavy towing but not heavy they just didn't work out.
Stick with a high quality pad. I think of Motorcraft, Brembo, Hawk, EBC, among many others. Something that will probably cost $50-$100 (you get what you pay for!).
Rotors:
I would see if you can get the OEM rotor's turned rather than buy Chinese.
If you got 98k miles out of OEM then I would replace with OEM.
Some judgement calls there.
