Ok so i was pulling my dads 20ft bayiner out of the lake and all of a sudden my transmission started leaking a little bit. I came home and about an hour later there was a huge puddle of tranny fluid on the drive way. I lost about 2 quarts and the leak stopped. About 2 months later i went out of town and upon arrival all my transmission fluid was gone i saw taht i was leaving a trail of the fluid behind me. I got a couple of quarts and filled it back up and the leak stopped again. anybody know whats going on?!?!
Where on the trans. does the leak start from? Front? Back? Pan??? Cooler Line??? Your going to have to get a little dirty and take a peak under there to get a better idea on what is going on. If the whole underside is wet, clean it off with a rag and try to see where the leak starts. Let us know what you find....
Yeah it leaks between the motor and the bellhousing... im guessing it is overheating now that u stated that. what could cause it to overheat? and what can i do to prevent it from occuring again?
put in a trans cooler. if it already has one and it keeps overheating then you will most likely need a rebuild, torque converter, etc. (the tranny shop would know more on what has to be done).
my trans cooler is intergrated into my radiator which is on every 1993 F150, i got a new one put in a few months ago so im sure that is working fine. someone told me that it was some gasket that is between the driveshaft and the trans its not leaking now but for the year that ive had it it completely drained the fluid twice so im wondering waht is the problem for the future
your trans is overheating and the fluid is venting out the overflow. (it should be leaking between the bellhousing and the motor, correct?)
i have two trans that does same thing 89 ranger and 89 mustang, these trans are famous for leaking, someone told me the problem is the bushing in the pump that wears out or gets knocked out of place. fixed the one in ranger but still leaks, but did not replaced the converter, do you think that is my problem now?
