The solenoid body is an expensive part to change without doing some diagnostics to see if the solenoid is the problem. Quite often the problem is in the wiring harness between the PCM and the TCC solenoid.
Ok found the solenoid wire harness but don't see it on the truck whare is it located on the external part of trany I see a wire going into what I think is the safety neutral switch any help would be greatly appreciated
I think you just want to replace parts and hope that fixes it. It's your money, not mine, so go for it!
There is no solenoid harness for the 4R100 transmission. The harness that needs diagnosis runs from the PCM (located near the parking brake pedal) to the passenger's side of the transmission. The connector at the transmission is behind a heat shield and is a pain to get to. But that's where you would disconnect the harness to change the solenoid body, so either way you're going to go threre.
You'll need to check the two wires to the solenoid for continuity from the PCM connector to the trans connector. You should also check both wires for shorts to ground and shorts to power.
Not trying to spend money need smog soon so has to be fixed found connector on side of trans yes pain to get to your saying that goes to inside truck (parking brake pedal area) that in lamans talk power to and from so to speak ? I am very car smart but this is somthing new Im trying to figure out I appreciate all you help changing solenoid pack will be last thing I try I did wiggle connector at trany and so far check engine light has stayed off for 2miles before wiggle 100 feet lol thanks again for info
To do this right you need to remove the connector from the PCM and from the transmission. You will also need a diagram to know which wires to look at, and I don't have one.
Probe the BACK of the connector, never the end that actually makes the connection. If you press a probe in where the pins are it will spread them and make a poor connection where one didn't exist before.
Check for continuity from one connector to the other. Also check each wire to see if there is continuity to power and if there is continuity to ground.
I think I understand basically testing each wire to make sure there's no short from one end to the other causing my problem I kinda understand how to do that don't quite know what I need to do it(volt meter with long leads) and wire diagram so I know what wires what ,then if there's a short you replace harness if no short solenoid pack issue thanks again for all your help
It should have continuity from one end of the wire to the other. You need a meter that reads ohms. You should see zero or near zero ohms from one end of the wire to the other end.
This is beyond me there are several wire harness connectors by the parking brake I just don't know enough about the wireing to tackle this thanks for your help but I'm lost
