I have a 2002 F250 V10 6.8L and I am assuming from what I have researched it has the 4R100 transmission. The other day I noticed it was shifting weird while driving and then after we were headed back home it wouldn't shift past second. I made sure I was in D and not 2 so I turned off overdrive and still it wouldn't shift past 2nd. I bought the truck used with 268,XXX miles on it and it has a Jasper rebuilt engine in it but they no longer have the paperwork to tell me when it was done. I know it has a whine in drive and reverse and was going to do the front pump at some point. I did a scan on it at home and it has a P1714 Shift Solenoid A Inductive code. Could it be as simple as a wire issue somewhere or replacing the solenoid? I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if I am headed in the right direction and could give me any input. Also am i correct on the assumption of the 4R100 transmission? It has an E under the TR on the door tag.
It is the solenoid. That code indicates that when the solenoid is commanded to change, it didn't change. The only way this code can set is when the solenoid is mechanically stuck. Several of my friends were issued a US patent for the software that detects stuck solenoids. It's very accurate.
It is the 4R100 transmission. Get a new solenoid body for it. It cannot be the wiring, it is the solenoid.

When you say get a new solenoid body for it are you referring to a 9 terminal control solenoid or am I able to just replace the one that is bad? The only other transmission that I have replaced solenoids on was my old 2002 Focus and it just had individual ones that I replaced singularly as needed.
