I haven't seen inside the 7.3 oil pan but if it's anything like the old Cummins oil pan there is a big screen over the oil intake to prevent big stuff from getting in there. IIRC it was more like a steel sleeve with holes drilled in it.

i am sure there is, but you would need the oil pan out
