I have a 75 Ford F-250 with a 390 four on the floor and need to replace the oil pan due to it leaking. I have gotten all of the bolts out but can't get the pan out. What do I need to do get the oil pan to remove?
I got the pan loose but the "frame - pan guard" under the oil pan is restricting it from coming completely off. The "guard" looks like it has huge rivets holding it to the frame. Should the oil pan easily come completely off where I can replace it just by removing the bolts and breaking it free or do I need to remove something else? Thanks for the help.
You need to jack the engine up to get enough clearance to get the pan off.
Remove the two nuts that attach the motor mounts to the towers, unbolt the fan shroud and raise the engine enough for the pan to clear the cross member.
Awesome thanks for the help. Do I need to raise the engine with a hoist from above or can I put a couple of jacks underneath it?
Some will tell you to jack the engine from underneath because they did it and didn't have issues, but I don't recommend this at all. About the only way you could pull that off is to use a bottle jack under the balancer and that's really dangerous. Think about it.
You need to use a hoist. You can get a good hoist for under $200, and it will pay for itself in the long run. I've changed out an oil pan before, and I used my hoist.
I got the hood off and the two nuts off holding the motor onto the towers. Where do I hook the hoist to the engine? I looked pretty hard and dont see any brackets for lifting the engine.
Either buy a lift plate that bolts to the top of intake manifold or rig up a chain with 1 bolt going to the each head. Or, a long tow strap wrapped around the engine.

Would not recommend the tow strap. There should be holes in the front of each head that you can mount a chain to. I have pulled the oil pans in these and had to unbolt the oil pump to remove the pan all of the way. The rest of the advise is really going to help you. Good luck.
