I would like it add some LEDs to my truck similar to the factory ambient lighting. Could I trouble someone to post pictures of their ambient lighting (a front and rear door, the console and elsewhere) so I can get an idea of how to make it look like factory? And maybe with reference to where the actual LED emits from? I know the 2017s had variable color. What is the current singular color? Blue?
If you have Sync 3 I would really try to do it all OEM. That's what I did. I have a Lariat Value and I already had 4 connector present and the BCM was prewired along with the cab to the doors. If I didn't have anything prewired I would have still done it. Took some time but overall it came out OEM and was able to function with Sync. With Sync and Forscan you are able to change the colors. Forscan uses 2018 adjustability where 2019 trucks are factory preset blue. Although I have a 2019 I did the Forscan to get the 2018 adjustability. I suggest looking at the F150 XLT link in the 2019 thread you posted above.
Trcion - you have a Lariat I think correct?
Use a '17 VIN (or just specify a 17 really) and order the LED modules you want to install and program with Forscan as shown in thread and you will have full OE ambient with variable intensity and color. If you order 19 modules its ice blue only.
I only did footwells, rear seats and console because it was plug and play literally.
Adding doors is much more involved as MKOS showed and accomplished with great results if you want the full OE look.
You can add in stages and always see - that's what I ended up doing, I stopped short of the doors after seeing the amount of light I had.
The code changes and step by step plus pics of the results are in that original post linked above.
Only downfall is if you cant get the bcm to work your going to have to run aftermarket lights as the oem leds wint turn on without command from spin. And a lot of leds now are so bright. The oems are just bright enough for an elegant look and not like when I was in high school 20 years ago with neons lol. Way to bright.

I can control the aftermarket LED brightness with a resistor. No worries there. I just want to see their look at night.

That was exactly my thought, I have buckets of LEDs and wire. Whole thing would cost about $3, but that would be single color. You could always use some addressable LEDs like the WS2020s and a cheap controller... But the OEM stuff doesn't look that expensive.
I added an LED to the overhead console, man did that help for finding stuff in the lower console at night. This mod seems like it would be fun to do though.
