My truck is a '17 6.2L with 53K. I have no ticks, knocks or anything else so far. I've ran Motorcraft 5w-30 semisyn since it was born but I can't believe that has anything to do with it. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the boosted horsepower that came out in the "17 6.2L generation. I've never heard anything like this from the 11-16 years of the 6.2L.
Try disconnecting the blue plug on the left side of throttle body as you face the truck.... mine disappeared when disconnected and comes back when plugged back in. Very pronounced on cold start.... not as much warmed up but does go quiet unplugged... it is a known issue...I believe there is a TSB... and the IMRC runner flaps are bad... fails open so kinda like truck is a 4 barrel carb all the time... when it should behave like 2 or 4 when commanded... what I think you hear is the broken flap knocking around.....( NO codes get set)... I had read that engines have been replaced or rebuilt, only to put the same intake back on.... and noise is still there.... part is on backorder ( that tells me they are have many failures) and I had to get Ford case and Copis part escalation case to get one....... funny I proved and got them to listen to me, finally, and they also did the long crank fuel pump replacement. (5th time I have brought it in for the issue) And then they found coil #1 was leaking spark and needed a new plug as connector wouldn't click... ( no error codes and I did not have that complaint. Maybe they told tech to find something they wouldn't get questioned by Ford on.? To pad the ticket$$?
but that seems to be the problem... love my Fords... hate the fact that the customer is an afterthought.. was actually told dealer has a deal with Ford and my ESP is a deal with Ford, but the dealer does not have a deal with me...??? I did tell them I was planning on next truck anywhere but there , If they don't want to have a deal with me....
This is it! Exactly. At least mine was... they actually told me they couldn't heaR it at first, and then tried to tell me it was Normal... I would think if bad valve spring or more, it would start triggering codes, as misfires and or actual engine wear damage increased
Update on this - found a different dealership who not only acknowledged the knock but a few other issues - Since my last message, the tranny has started clunking at low rpms (1000+- between gears 3-5) and the 4x4 only works if the hubs are locked. Dealership said I should trade the truck in because parts are back ordered and I won't have my truck for months. I literally am at a loss haha. Should I trade it in? seems messed up to pass it on to someone else.
My 19 is all good only thing was the long crank issue but changed out fuel pumps and good. Guess I got a good one so far guess we will see.
My second one is, after a couple of years of flawless performance, acting like the first one, so I imagine it won’t be long before my ‘18 F-250 STX will be on pump number 3!!! I have 97K miles.

What parts are on back order? I hope the fuel pump isn’t…there’s a third one in my future, I’m afraid!!! See above post for deets.
Haha funny story there, so i have the long crank issue but they say that's normal so no fuel pumps for melinke (they also said that my 4x4 is intended to only work when hubs are locked but I was able to convince them with the manual).

Wow, what!?!? I hate educating service advisors, but I had to do exactly that before Grapevine (Texas) Ford replaced my original pump a few years ago. The SA kind of poo-poo’d what I told him what this forum said about long crank times, but changed his tune once the tech tore into it.
Side note for you service folks on this board: please remember that like us, you’re human and you don’t know everything! Be open to possibilities beyond what your training and experience tell you, OK?
Update. They fixed the 4X4, but when I took it out, it still didn't work, so when I took it back they had to fix that and weren't able to get to the transmission and engine - the rental car deal is an absolute ****show btw - I can only get it for a few days at a time even though it's got enough warranty coverage to fix everything from a lightbulb to the engine. They can't get me in for a few months to drop the transmission (they found shavings in the fluid), and the engine knock is coming from the Intake manifold but they're awaiting a Ford rep to confirm). At this point I don't know what to do, and am at a loss tbh. It gets worse - when I asked the sales guy if he would take it in on a trade, he told me that it had prior damage to all sides and ends of the vehicle so I can't even get what I paid for it with the down payment. when I bought it, I was told it had minor damage to the passenger side of the bed. It also doesn't look like the dealership I bought it from gave it the inspection to actually make it a blue check certified vehicle. Does anyone know if there's a ford rep who frequents these threads? I'd love to connect with them if possible.
has anyone with a knocking 6.2 gasser dropped the oil pan to look for metal? My F250 6.2 has been knocking for 6 months, seems to be getting louder. From a cold start, loud engine knock, after 5 minutes, knocking stops.
Started at 55k miles. Unplugged IMRC which did not fix it. Running Castrol Edge full synthetic with Motorcraft filter. Audible inside the truck, sounds like it's directly behind the screen on the dash from inside. Outside sounds like middle driver side close to firewall. Ford dealer says it sounds normal. I'm around 6.2L's all day on the job site with 100-200k miles and none of them sound like this. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3zzH5XxRoTs
The elusive 6.2l tick is a bad rocker arm hydraulic lash adjuster or intake manifold control runner 99% of the time. Imrc can be diagnosed easily by unplugging it on passenger side of intake. The hydraulic lash adjuster is pressed into the rocker arm and the spring that keeps pressure until oil pressure get back up to rockers after initial start up. With that I'll add at 203,000 miles I had a nasty. 14vwere bad so i did all 16 rockers, and I went thru 27 to get 16 good 1's. Everytime I started it I had some more fail within 3 start ups. 5 tear downs and wait for parts to arrive at dealer because they were never in stock within a 4 hr drive from me. That was a miserable month. All ford mo co parts. Part # al3e-6564-aa. Here is what happens when the lash adjuster fails

Have you figured out what was causing the knocking I’m having the same issue.
