My engine is noisy. Even after warmed up. I get the loud screech/whining from the fan clutch when it's cold too. I need to take it in for the block heater cord anyways...I'll ask them about it then. It's embarrassing to drive.

Ande,

What's the update on your truck?

My situation: Bought a brand new 2018 F250 6.2 last year - it had numerous problems Ford couldn't fix (bad door alignment issues, intermittent long crank that even fuel pump/programming didn't fix, repeated water leaks, etc.) Ford replaced it with the 2019 F250 6.2 I am driving now.

The 2019 drove off the lot with a slight tick that varied with RPM (like yours). First few trips to the dealership resulted in "we don't hear it" - Over time it got louder. It finally got so loud at 11k miles that I actually got the dealership service manager to say "wow, that is not right" so it's been in there 2 weeks now. It's a loud ticking sound coming from the engine compartment, possibly on the driver's side (seems louder sitting in the driver's seat) - increases and decreases with RPM. After the first week they told me they have no idea what's making the sound, but they do acknowledge it. They actually said "Take it home and drive it until something breaks" - nope. Not doing that. They actually said "we haven't seen any 6.2's with engine noises" - they obviously don't read these forums.

Regional tech supposed to stop by this week and hear the noise for himself and make recommendations to dealership on how to proceed. Dealership has ruled out exhaust leaks, they are thinking it's internal to the engine at this point but "can't just tear it open to go looking for the issue if Ford doesn't give them the OK" - sounds like their problem, not mine.

I am beyond done with this whole experience. Two brand new F250 6.2 trucks in a row total pieces of **** and gigantic time suck staying on top of dealership and Ford to do something or make it right. I blew a good 6 months dealing with Ford RAV getting my lemon replacement to happen last year. Here we go again...

I got a lawyer because ford and dealer just blow it off as normal to have a cam phaser go at 20 miles and problem continuing after it was replaced . They offered a very small amount of money for me to keep the truck shut up and live with it . I refuse to let it go ! They can buy the peice of garbage back . I don't care if it takes a year .I will keep putting miles on it . Law states I only have to pay for the miles put on befor it was In the shop for the first time and that will come to a whopping few dollars so let them drag it out .

2017 F-250 CCSB 6.2L 4x4 w/ 2.5" (proper) level and res/muff delete. Bought at 8,200 mi. now at 15,100 mi. I switched to full synthetic at 8,500 mi. I'm not sure if it was doing this when I bought it or not, but it has been doing it for a while now. I only notice it when pulled up to a drive-thru or sitting in my drive next to my other truck. This is my first vehicle with cam phasers, so I'm not familiar with w/e noise they might bring to the table. I do occasionally hear the lash adjusters / lifters doing their thing, but it always clears right up.

On cold start or after sitting for a few hours, it is smooth and silent. After it idles down to full-temp idle speed, it immediately starts doing this at random. It is directly related to engine speed, but SEEMS to go away with higher, off-idle RPMs. It sounds to me like it's coming from the center of the big end and it carries all the way down the drive line. Loudest between rear of motor and trans. You can't feel the knock though at all, everything feels as smooth as butter.

(Sorry about the cicadas. The sound is a LOT better on my S9 than my laptop. Oddly, I can't even pick it out using earbuds on my workstation.)

Thoughts? Does yours do this? Could this possibly be related to the CPV / Cannister Purge Valve or is that more of a ticking? Rod knock?

First I want to say, my dealer was absolutely awesome. Ford Corporate are absolute jerks. They refused to replace or buy back my truck. After multiple visits and the truck sitting at the dealer for over 3 months (I was in a rental they paid for), and field engineer involved and fixed nothing, they still told me to pound sand and they aren't replacing my truck. They offered me a couple payments, I said go to hell. I got an attorney and it took almost a year, but they bought it back.

You have to get a lawyer. Don't expect any kind of good customer service from Ford Corporation. Their Corporate manager even told me I should have researched the Trucks problems before buying it!!! Another woman manager told me that my worry about rear doors opening while driving down the highway by themselves could get one of my toddlers killed, and she said exact words "Sir, You are talking about a lot of "what if" situations". I was like, really? Want me to tell you how many people die from what if situations. She had no concern at all.

I loved the style of the F250 so much, I bought a new one, had it built from the factory. 2019 F250 Lariat. LEft rear door leaks water, fills the sill and channel up under it just like the 2017. I called Ford Corporate and notified them about my new Truck leaking water, and nobody has a good fix, and I haven't heard nothing. Ford's quality absolutely sucks. SO many times they don't even have parts because everything is on backorder. Google Ford 250 or F150 doors leak. Great videos out there. Both the F150 and F250 share the same door design and both leak the same.

Its an absolute disgrace and I have been an Avid Ford customer with over 10 new vehicles in last 15 years. They simply do not care.

For the leak that fills the wire channel have your dealer check the rear cab vents to be sure they are installed correct and snapped in all the way. I had water getting into the channel and thought it was the doors. My dealer found the cab vents were not snapped in all the way and letting water in. It would run down the back of cab onto the door sills. Haven't noticed any water since.

Anyone else hearing this out of their warmed-up 6.2? You might have to listen for it for a few minutes either down behind driver's front wheel or the wheel well itself.

Goes away all together after I drive it and the engine warms up. Could this hopefully be anything other than a rod starving for oil? I have not brought it back to the dealer yet because it seems to only happen when it is first started up and not driven yet.
My 2019 6.2 STX F250 FX4 has been having occasional tapping sounds emitting from the engine bay , it’s frustrating and even embarrassing... the engine runs strong I’ve taken it on a 4500 mile road trip with zero issues (south Texas to San Francisco and back)... the deal tells me it’s normal but I can’t stand it. I have almost 11K miles on it .

My 2011 6.2 made all kinda noise at start up, occasionally pretty bad. Broke a valve spring too, actually because I jacked with the rev limiter.

Around 180k hard miles I got rid of it. Still ran fine and smooth but you could start feeling the age starting around 150k.

Its a throw away motor, they will probably last 250-300k miles till the truck is totally worn out. Thats the way they design vehicles now days.

On the motor differences 2011 vs the new ones I saw mine had aluminum valve covers and the newer ones had black (maybe plastic).

If it runs fine I wouldnt sweat it. I also had occasional long start issues that would give you a bit of pause.

I have owned many Fords since 95 and have 2 now a 6.7 and 6.2 F350’s and I never have had any problems so to speak other than normal maintenance stuff as they got older. Now I use the hell out of them for what they are intended and built for. Don’t know if that makes a difference but knock on wood it stays that way. Kinda like the 3.5 Ecoboost you here tons of crap on it have had 4 since 2010 not one single problem out of none. On my 3rd 6.7 since Ford came out with it and no problems other than my 19 it had the electric fan went bad. This is my first 6.2 and so far so good haven’t had it long but got 2000 on it and good so far.

My 19 is in the shop for knocking and chattering as well. This will be the 3rd 250 I've owned that was in the garage within the first 6 months of ownership. I've come to the conclusion they are junk like every thing else.

i’m going to just drive it and enjoy it and try not to worry to much about the engine tap... the truck runs great feels strong, it’s still under warranty, I’d love to get 250-300K miles out of it.

Have you tried changing oils?

I didnt care much in my 6.2 but my 6.7 has some minor noise that goes away supposedly if you change oils.

We also had a 2016 3.5 NA F150 and it had such a bad tick/knock I thought it was broke but after research found its common. We beat the crap out of that truck too. Didnt really care too much, but when I sold it I made sure we met in a parking lot next to a construction site and close to the freeway

I switched to Fords full synthetic oil and didn’t notice a difference... what’s odd is the engine doesn’t alway make tapping sounds , but there are time when it’s very noticeable, even with window up... it goes away once I jump on the expressway...

GM use to make an additive for lifter knock. Even back to a sports car I had with an LT1 in it they put that in when I complained.

Run the regular stuff and try that maybe (maybe Ford has some stuff).
