I pull a 8,000 lbs travel trailer. After a 2,000 trip, my engine developed a engine knock. See video. Truck is in the shop. 1 week wait for diagnostic.
Well that's interesting. Please keep us posted.
During the spring and summer, I tow about 11.2k. Tractor, shredder and metal bed trailer.
I did learn and was totally surprised to see the oil change light come on after less then 3.5k miles or so.
When I took it to my NAPA shop to dump the oil the owner told me he'd never seen such dark oil.
So guess when working the truck this hard I have to keep an eye on the oil life percentage.
Hope it all works out well for you.
Oh since cutting season is over for me the truck sits for about two weeks or so.
When I fired it up and heard ticking I got alarmed, but now it's sat.
Guess just sitting there for so long the Valvoline just totally drained down.
Started at 55k miles. Unplugged IMRC which did not fix it. Running Castrol Edge full synthetic with Motorcraft filter. Audible inside the truck, sounds like it's directly behind the screen on the dash from inside. Outside sounds like middle driver side close to firewall. Ford dealer says it sounds normal. I'm around 6.2L's all day on the job site with 100-200k miles and none of them sound like this. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3zzH5XxRoTs

Pop your valve cover and check your valve springs, you might have a broken one.
Dealership continued to tell me they could not duplicate ticking/knocking sound. I showed up at 7:45am to meet the tech and we started 6.2 engine and ticking sound was there. Tech tells me it is most likely a collapsed rocker arm, continue to drive, no damage to engine by continue to drive-in writing on service report. My truck has 49456 miles. I have a Ford extended warranty. Suspect they will make repairs when odometer rolls over 50,000 mile.
what year is your F250, fixed? did they open up the engine? any discussion on valve spring-rocket arm sticking? In original post mentioned Dealership maybe waiting on repairs to be done once truck odometer passed 50,000 miles-then Dealership can then bill Ford Extended Warranty?? What was the mileage on your F250 when repairs were approve? How long backordered?
Me? 2017 with 46,000 miles. Have Premiumcare ESP, I had to show them the issue in service drive, and how to prove it, without opening it up. Waiting on part ETA, -COPIS case opened,
It is a knock. On start up knocks for 3 minutes then stops?
Idk, sounds more like a knock than a tick. Sound increases slightly with more throttle but then seems to go away quickly, but returns when I'm back down close to idle. Doesnt matter if its been running for 3 mins or 3 hours.
Hi all, I finally made it into the local dealership this morning after waiting 3 weeks for an appointment (side note the knock/tic has gotten louder). The service advisor told me he didn't hear anything in the cab to which I replied, 'really?' and he said, 'I have bad hearing due to all of these years working on cars' (I was a commercial fisherman in alaska and flew in helicopters, and I can hear it). Anyways, I guided him to the front of the truck and asked again, he still said 'no'. Then I popped the hood, at which point he said, 'yes, that's quite loud'. They had it the entire day but didn't take anything apart because it would be 'torn apart for 7-10 days just to diagnose the problem and you have a great warranty'. They continued, 'wait for it to get louder, and or throw a code' (meanwhile it has progressively gotten louder over the last month). I'm in a tough spot because i can't not have my truck for a minimum of 10 days due to work. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.
I put full synthetic oil in and the knock is a little better. Full synthetic and or it's summertime, something has changed in the engine knock. Ford extended warranty gives you a 10 day rental.
Truly appreciate the reply. Good to know about the rental, that was not mentioned by the service advisor, but it may be due to the fact that 7-10 days is soley to diagnose the problem - not including any actual work. Idk. I run full synthetic. I'll keep you posted.
