Hey Guys
I am getting ready to do a tranny service to my 2009 5.4litre 6 speed transmission. The dipstick says to use Mercon Sp fluid, my manual says to use Mercon Lv fluid and the first Ford parts guy says to use what the dipstick says...it was a transition year. The second ford parts guy says to use Mercon Lv. He states in a bulletin 307-01B that Mercon Lv replaces Sp but Sp is still made for older transmissions. I am thinking it’s kinda like oil grades...the newer ones have all of the qualities of older ones plus more. I am still suspicious when the dipstick says to use Sp? 180,000 Kms. I notice when on cruise control on highway downshift can be harsh. If new filter and fluid don’t help I will take back to dealer to see if any software upgrades available.
TIA for your experiences
Which ever fluid you decide on, change it yourself! The last time I had the oil changed (6 free oil changes with the purchase of the truck) I asked at my dealership,"How much would a tranny flush and filter change cost?" The reply was a flush will cost about $209. Sure sounded like a better deal than me doing it, and they had all the parts and equipment. So I waited a couple of weeks and called for an appointment. I asked again what will this cost. Same amount, was the answer. Had the work done, went to pay and the bill was $573.49! I almost sh-- myself. When I asked WTF, why is this so much over $209? The answer was "Well that was just for the flush". The filter was ***, the fluid was ***, the gasket was *** and the labor was ***! It was like going to a coffee shop and getting the $2 coffee and then paying $10, because you also got cream, sugar and a paper cup! That was the last time I will ever go to them for anything. Including my nest vehicle!

You have to remember that each dealer is an independent business, and they all operate differently. I have paid for transmission flushes in the past they were at the quoted price, which was around $200. I would prefer to spend $200 to have it flushed then do it myself three times at nearly the same cost for an incomplete job.
I wouldn't go to your dealer for anything, it sounds like they're one of the worse ones out there. But they're not all like that.

Agree. Sounds like they do "gotcha" pricing. Run away.
