Help with spark plugs
This is a '88 F250 with 5 L 302 and manual trans. The truck has been great for years but has been starting to miss when under load. So I thought I should put plugs and wires on it. The only codes that show up point to O2 lean and EGR issue.
I bought this truck in January 2014 showing 53,xxx so I assume 153,xxx miles. I had it into the local garage (used to be Ford garage) at the time and had them check the plugs and wires (among other things), they said they were good.
So now I got 215,xxx mi on it and you guys told me what plugs and wires to get.
I don't find the decal under the hood says what to gap at.
I went to NAPA and got Autolite 25 and what looks like custom wires for it.
Today, in spite of the weather, snow all over and dark gloomy skies, I tried to do just ONE plug. OK, it's got what seems like Autolite 24 (or 20 - hard to read), it looks good, possibly lean burning, but considering it's got at least 60,xxx mi on it. not bad.
But what's the affect of the wrong plug?
Any help is really appreciated.
Gap your new plugs at .045 is my advise.
