Racing spark plugs?

The Champion plugs arrived today for the FE446. I noticed when ordering and once they arrived that they are called "Racing" spark plugs? Does this mean I'll be replaing them every 300 miles or something? On a good note, they do appear to be physically correct in size, thread pitch etc.

And no, I have not installed them yet. Work, eat, sleep until Wednesday.

The "racing" just means they are a fairly cold heat range.

So, would you say based on how my other plugs looked, that 350 rwhp wasn't all that bad? I have not looked at a lot of plugs in my time. I guess I should learn how to read them. The broken plug probably explains it running like crap on start-up.

I have never seen a true racing plug with a higher heat range than the lowest standard heat range plug for that engine series.

Well, for the extra $1 or 2 per plug, I'll take Keith Craft's recommendation. It was on his FAQ page, so it's not like his getting the extra cash. I did have to go to Jegs to find them.

let's hope this brings much improvement!

I'm with ya. If it cleans it up, I'll be ordering mine.

Well Just going by memory? from my Altered Days...I think you'll find the heat range of race plugs to be wider than standard Automotive plugs..

I used to have a plug rack in my trailer with 4 or 5 sets of plugs in different ranges..Depending on the altitude,Air density, Temp, and track conditions..

Maybe I was just fooling myself??

I don't do drag racing so my opion won't mean much, but running at high rpm for any great lenghts I would use colder plugs, usually Autolite BTF6, the same plug they used in trucks that ran hiway speeds all day, but I can't find them anymore

The only thing with drag racing is there is no real extended run time. 11 seconds is not too long(for me). Yes, you can burn stuff up if the tune up is that bad off, but it's definitely not like nascar.

I guess if you are "class" racing and looking for the 'nth' of a second advantage then changing plugs for weather will do something. Us bracket racers don't screw with anything(at least I don't). Get it in the ballpark and run'r! Consistency(thru the race) is the game, not be the fastest everytime.
