I have a very strange issue with my 77 f250, I think it might be a loose ground but I'm not sure. My driver's side turn signal doesn't always work properly, sometimes, and I stress sometimes when I have my lights on the indicator will turn solid and the drivers side turn signal will not flash. Then on the passenger side the indicator will flash showing that the lights are working properly. In reality all of the lights including my cab marker lights will be flashing, as if it was only my indicator flashing.
I don't think your problem is a ground, alone. I suspect wiring that has rubbed away its jacket and that there is an arc occurring when the wiring makes it to the right position due to road vibration...and/or relay issues. What happens if you bypass the signal switch, and give power to your signals? What happens if you do this and shake the wiring to the lights?
BUT yeah, I would look at all the grounds, too. Can't hurt. Please tell us what you find.
I had a similar issue with my truck. Cleaning all the contacts, changing the bulbs, and cleaning up the grounds fixed it for me. The marker lights flashing with the indicator is weird, though. I agree with tv8bird, it sounds like some wires are getting crossed somewhere and causing that. Here's the relevant wiring diagram for a 76, it should be pretty similar to your truck. A multimeter with a continuity tester will help you out a lot in tracking down any problems.
I had a similar front passenger side turn signal. When I would activate the passenger side turn signal, it would just illuminative and not blink. I cleaned the bulb contact points, sockets, ground and used a little DIELTRIC grease, haven't had a problem since. But agree W/tv8bird, sounds like worn wire insulation cross pollenating. Again lets us know what you find as the cause.
I made a mistake in my description, the passenger side turn signal always works normally the all lights blinking will occur on the driver side turn signal after I turn the lights off. I will look into cleaning all the bulb contacts, honestly I probably won't get to it till this weekend as the sun isn't up when I go to work, and oddly enough the sun isn't up when I get home.
