Anyone know where to find the firewall grommet that the cable goes through? I have a big ol hole in the firewall with no plug. Should I just use some sort of silicone sealant?

Just as a heads up, after a while you may no longer like the latch. I loved mine at first because of the safety, butas time goes on it fights me more and more. I’ll pull the handle, walk to the hood and it won’t open. This can happen 3-4 times before I finally wedge something behind the handle to hold it while I walk to front.

The latch in grill is is so much more convienient.

I’ve tried oiling it all, adjusting latch, holding my mouth kind of sideways, cussing and nothing has helped.

Also, in an engine fire scenario, if you don’t open the hood fast you probably won’t open it.

+1 I’ve got one because I need to temporarily park my truck on the street. I’d say do what some seasoned folks on the forum recommended to me: make sure it opens flawlessly on the first go. If not, don’t keep it on your truck. If it takes you one or two pulls and beating on your hood...NO. Fire is too serious of a thing to play with.

FYI the latch and handle off a van will work also, you just need to get a way longer cable. And yes a heavier cable is a great idea too. And having it all adjusted to open on the 1st pull is critical.

The van (Econoline) latch is the same .. but the van cable is the wrong length.
