I've got the in cab lockable hood release cable. I'd like to lube it. I have my own idea of how to: disconnect from latch, elevate, and attempt to get some lightweight oil to drip down inside cable. Do anyone have a better procedure? Thanks.

Don't break that cable, it's harder to find than Jimmy Hoffa. The cable did not require lube, but if I was going to lube it, I'd use graphite.
And if it breaks someday, take the hod latch, cable and cover, T handle (lockable) w/key to a quality motorcycle shop and have them upgrade the cable.....X2 on graphite.
Pop the hood, remove the 1 bolt/screw (65912-S), and lift the cover bracket (16B968) in a way that it will unlock from a tab?? Meaning the odd shaped bracket that is over the place/area/the hood release bracket that the cable connects to. Then you remove the cable loop from the latch, and then the plastic piece/collar in the end of the bracket. You have to pop out of its mount hole. And then just graphite the cable end.
Another piece of advice while you have it apart is to make some simple low key modes to the locking latch area to make is easy to open in the event you break that thin old cable.
See the red dash, that is a cut/slit just big enough to put a #1 size flat tip screw driver (blue) in to and over to push on the lever the cable normally pulls on to release the hood. See the X on the cover you removed you can make a back up emergency hood pop J rod (red) so to speak.
Of course to get in there you have to remove your grill shell insert. Yes the diagram is for a van. I POSTED IT FOR MORE DETAIL, but trucks are the same way. AS FAR AS THE WAY YOU ACCESS THE LATCH CABLE. I NEVER SAID THE CABLE WAS THE SAME.
lol Who cares about the length of the cable, he is not trying to REPLACE the cable, he is asking how to get it OUT to lube it. Which is exactily what I told and showed him how to do.

Who cares about the length? Anyone that needs it. Do you think that everyone that reads this thread is interested in how to lube the cable?
Geez Louise, you'd complain if you were hanged with a new rope!
Out of respect, I had to bite my tongue to keep from posting a smilie and boy oh boy, this post needs one. You posted one, but I held back.

Geez Louise, you'd complain if you were hanged with a new rope! Who is Louise and why are you talking to her about being hanged with a new rope? Are you advocating an act of violence?
Out of respect, I had to bite my tongue to keep from posting a smilie and boy oh boy, this post needs one. You posted one, but I held back. RESPECT......what ALL forum members on here deserve! But unfortunately they do not get it from some members with their condescending thread remarks and what seems like a grumpy old attitude. Just saying.
You keep biting your tongue.... better add a cheeseburger in there, you'll get more out of it that way. 9 out of 10 dietitians say so. Have a nice day!
