D5DZ16914A .. Hood Cable-Used with Locking Hood Latch / Obsolete

Fits: 1973/79 F100/350 / 1976/80 Granada/Monarch / 1977/80 Lincoln Versailles / 1978/79 Bronco.

All the Versailles had locking hoods, optional on the Granada/Monarch.

Junkyards only, no Ford or L/M dealer, no obsolete parts vendor has any.

The hood latch (E7UZ16700A) is the same as 1975/91 Econoline (it's also OBSOLETE), but the Econoline's locking hood cable will not work, as it's too short.

Yea, I see them there all the time. Problem is that after 30 years the cable housing gets soooooooo brittle that the slightest bend causes it to crack and then the problems start. That is why I'm looking for a replacement cable, housing and all.

The hood latch is still available from Ford as it was also used on 1975/91 Econolines.

Thanks ND. I was hoping you'd chime in. Your info is always the greatest. I guess what I am hoping for is that someone has gone out and purchased a new piece of cable and housing and made their own new one. I can't see as it would be that hard of a project with a little patience.

D8TZ16700A .. Locking Hood Latch Kit / Obsolete.

Came with everything: locking latch, cable, cable lock cylinder, attaching hardware, instruction sheet.

This kit was sold at the parts counter, fits 1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco.

Sorry, no one has it either.

Notice I edited post #3: The locking hood latch (E7UZ16700A) is no longer available from Ford.

I just looked, it just went obsolete.

But, there are a few still in stock at various dealers.

I worry about the wire breaking, I have had to replace more than I care to remember with junkyard units. Is it possible to take the handle assembly apart to get a new piece of wire rope in there? I never bothered looking.

If I remember correctly, you can slip the cable out of the assembly.

What secures the end of the wire rope inside the handle? I know at the latch end there is a ferrule(SP) that holds it together.

Yes, the 1980-1986 cable and handle can be used as a substitute. You have to use the latch from the 1975-1991 Econoline, or 1973-1979.

Interesting.

I wonder why Ford doesn't show that info in the parts catalog?

The Econoline part number for the latch (E7UZ16700A) replaced the 1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco's part number (D8TZ16700B).

But there's no mention of the 1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco's cable (D5DZ16914A) being replaced by anything.

Got the drill out yesterday and went investigating. Drilled out the 4 rivets holding the handle together and found another ferrule on the end of the cable in the handle. Started talking to some folks I know in the parts store and ended up with a couple of leads to places who might be able to help. One is a boat store. I think the answer here is finding a new piece of cable and housing and building a new one. I will keep everyone posted on my progress on this as I believe there are more out there needing a fix.

They probably don't show compatability, because there 2 different things handle wise (1's chrome that locks the othere is just a nonlocking blk T handle). The cables ARE the same lenght though .I don't know though is.Could only a replacement cable be bought back then OR if someone wanted a new cable they had to buy it with the handle.Just a subnote (I know were in a 70's forum) But I believe Ford put the chrome locking T handles on 80-3 Bronco's.When I found the 1st one on a 80's Bronc I figured it was a 70's unit put on,But I'v taken many off a 80's trks at local yards. That's why I believe they where in use till at leat 1983

1980-1986 F-series and Bronco with the security Lock group, had this metal locking handle.

As for the compatibility issue, and why Ford doesn't list this as working, I don't know.
