Well with that photo I would have to say check the valve seat.
If it;s eroded into the head I think I would toss the set and get some fresh ones.
Someone might be able to repair it but I am not sure if I would trust it. What you
need is someone that does a lot of diesel head work to look at it.
Pull the valve out and get a good photo of the seat and guide area once it's been cleaned of residue.
To save that head you would need a machine shop to cut in for press it valve seats. Factory heads do not have a seat insert, just the head material alone is the seat.
Luckily I've got a friend of a friend who has a high performance machine shop and does head work for competitive pulling trucks and tractors. He should get it lined out pretty easily. I'll post pics of the valve seat soon

That was what I was thinking but was not sure enough to say it.
Anyone know any tricks to get all the air out of the fuel system. Did all necessary repairs and now I have good even cranking and everything is buttoned up tight, but I've ran the batteries down twice and still no start.

After reassembly and an oil drain, I dump the fresh oil down the filter housing with oil filter removed, then reassembly filter & cap. Before cranking, cycle the key on for 15 seconds at a time 3-5 times to prime the fuel system. Then crank. Should start after a few seconds of cranking. Batteries must be fully charged to start with.

Well, I tried that and I've ran my batteries dead twice trying to get it started. It started perfectly before teardown.
Did you check all the vitals? Maybe you didn't fully seat the FICM plugs?
Do you have FICM sync when cranking? Is it building any pressure at ICP sensor? Is the IPR maxing out while cranking?
Have you pulled the oil filter to check that the housing fills with oil while cranking? Did you pull the secondary fuel filter and verify its wet with fuel and the pump is pushing fuel?

Ha! Found the problem. IPR wasn't even plugged up. Plugged it up and it started right up and runs like a champ. In my haste I must've over looked the small plug that has caused me such anguish for the past 48+ hours. My first experience on any forum has been with you gents. I really appreciate all of the help and sound advice.
Godspeed.
