The thermostat o-ring is a one time use only type of o-ring. Once it's on there, it's on there, if you remove the thermostat, you have to replace the seal otherwise you'll get to do it again.
Yeah I didn't think about that ahead of time. By the time I realized it was 7pm on a saturday. My options were to buy a new thermostat or wait until the following day at 1pm for the auto store to get just the oring. And I really wanted to get it together that night. I did find the oring that I lost though, put it in a box and returned one of the thermostat's.
