Injector hold down clamps

Just luck, today I found two important pieces of information, just at the right time.
I watched Diesel tech Ron, and he said there are two types of injector hold downs for 6.0l. I just searched the web and some people say don't waste the money. Guess what? The two hold down clamps are not the same in the sense of height. So watch out.

Ford's recommendation for hold-down torquing is 24 ft-lbs for the 03 to early 06 hold-downs, and 26 ft-lbs for the commonized engines. That is 32.5 and 35.25 NM respectively. Many people just do them all to 27 or 28 ft-lbs.

There are some posts about some of the head cracks being connected to over-torquing these hold-downs.

Namnguy, you needed to spend more time getting familiar with this truck before doing some of the things you’ve done.

Anyway the commonized heads that use 20mm dowels take the different hold downs, the injectors are not different. And as Mark pointed out there are a few machinists that attribute cracked heads with over torqued injectors.

I torqued my to 28 ft-lbs. The over torqued bolt I mentioned was a tiny screw holding the two coils on the side of the injector. It has only about 0.5 nm, which I don't have a good torque wrench to do that. But apparently, too much on that is very bad. People mentioned breaking the tiny bolt, but I found today that when warm up, it would seize the valve and cause sticktion issue.

Ahh ok ..... you were talking about two different things!! I didn't catch that (obviously ....)!

Good to know how light that torque value is on the coil fasteners.

Mark, I fell into the same trap, I thought he was still talking hold downs.

Thank you. I corrected the initial post. Felt embarrass for that post. I was trying to give something back and my info wasn't even correct. Sorry for going off track. Great information. I definitely did a lot of things for my beginner level. I hope I didn't make any big irrecoverable/costly mistake.
