I have a 2008 f150 with a 5.4 triton 3V. that has 2 codes bank 1 timing over advanced and Bank 2 timing over advanced. I have done a full tune up, replaced both VCT sensors and cam positioning sensors, I change the oil every 3,000 miles and I use 5W-20 it does have a ticking sound when truck is cold but goes away in about 30 seconds, I have been reading about installing cam phaser blockers. just wondering if anyone has installed these on there 5.4 3V motors before. any help or ideas would be great.
Actually, it just sounds like a phaser change which doesn't sound too bad. I didn't follow too deep into the lockouts but I assume it just keeps them from advancing the timing?
You can get the phasers and chain and guide kit from the aftermarket in the 300 to 400 range, it's a lot of work but not that much money. I've found removing the followers is one of the worst parts of the whole deal, you will need the special spring compressor tool.
How did you replace the chain and all the other stuff? On the 5.4 did you have to pull the entire cab off the chassis? The Ford dealer is doing that to my 2014 3.5L Ecoboost, pulling the cab off the chassis.

Unplug your phasers and drive the vehicle for a few days and decide if you like how it drives with locked out timing before you lock them out permanently.
I unplugged them on my 2010 at work and it was noticeably down on power in the lower rpm. Based on that , I decided that locking them out wouldn't be something I would ever do.

Aftermarket phasers (Dorman in particular) have a bad reputation of premature failure. I would buy the genuine article in this case.
