Dropped tank and discovered my pick-up foot was in the bottom of tank in a hundred pieces. I cleaned the BLACK screens and reinstalled, going to pick up another foot with screen tomorrow from Ford ($65) ouch! Should i put it back original, or go ahead and eliminate screens and install a pre pump filter? If a pre pump filter is the way to go, what kind and where should i get it?
You can piece it together yourself or order a kit with all the bits. I did mine about 10 years ago and got the kit from ITP Diesel. I think RiffRaff also sells a setup that is simple & effective, plus he sells the foot you need for about 1/2 what that dealership wants to charge. For a pre-pump filter if I was doing it again, I'd go with the Racor PS-120 or something similar with a heater element for winter time.
Check out THIS THREAD for more info, and don't forget to use the search function.
Clay sells it for $35 IIRC, I got the dealership to match the price ($80 was their price), I did not reinstall the screen on the bottom, somehow forgot it and only noticed after everything was buttoned up and there was NWIH, I was going to drop Tank again unless I absolutely had too. I haven't had any issues either...
Run the Racor PS120. A lot of us are running it with very few issues reported. I had 1 issue but it was installer error. DO NOT use anything on the threads of the clear plastic housing.
I found the foot with screen at O'reillys for $36. I have already cut the tube for harpoon modification. I have to visit ACE hardware for the compression fittings and fuel lines. Hopefully i will have time to finish tomorrow. Thanks everyone!!! This site is awesome.
yes, might have to order it in depending on the location from the vendor (fancy way of saying they will overnight ship from one store to another) but they do have it and was like $30 and some change iirc
