Here is some info. Search around a bit more, a lot of info around. Someone sells a kit with everything to do the mod, can't remember who though. http://community.webshots.com/album/32614313yLKyrS

The Ford fuel system has a number of connections, pre-pump, that can draw air into the fuel line and send the air-fuel mixture to the filter filter. The fuel filter will return some of the air back to the tank, but a large percentage will get into the fuel rails and from there through the injectors causing performance degradation and increased 'diesel knock'. The Hutch mod (named for the screen name of the gentleman that designed the original modification, HutchinAgusta) eliminates the leaky fuel connections at the inlet of the pump, on the top of the tank and the fuel pickup/mixer in the tank. It requires dropping the tank, removing the mixing valve assembly in the tank and elimination of the emergency pickup valve on the pickup foot. ITP Diesel has a kit fashioned after Hutch's Mod for less than $50 and has some pretty good directions on their website. It is also recommended to add a pre-pump filter to your system when doing this mod. I have a few pics from my home-made mod, but I don't have a write-up on it yet.

I got the pre-pump, in-tank kit from ITP. I was very pleased with the quality of the product and the instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I would recommend the ITP kit to anyone looking to do this mod. Dropping the tank went much smoother than I had anticipated too.
