WTF? Blowing oil out the breather is a weird one. Stinks that they have to swap the whole axle. LOL.
I'm knocking a hole in the bed and running the breather all the way up. I haven't bothered with it yet, not sure where the factory routing is. But I forded some deep water last week. So it' might be wise to extend the front and rear breathers.
what has the dealer done to try and diagnose the problem ? wheres the breather nipple located ?
Checked gear oil level, temperature, pulled cover, inspected for wear, checked flow rate of drain tube.
The vent bung is on the driver side tube, on the top.

You and me both. Love the truck other than this pita axle issue. The senior tech that does the gears and transmissions did a good job on the gear setup.
I'm not a fan of the Dana 300 ... The F-450 should have the Dana 130s , sucks Ford back peddled on the rear axle to save weight and $$$$
The 2015 / 2016 rear axle was the best axle Ford ever put in a pickup truck , the axle was under rate for Government specs , very easy to work on and have a long life , the last center our shop pulled out had 200k and was just for a visual.
Center sections un-bolt which is really nice and very easy to set up .
If Ford gets enough problems with the 300 maybe put the Dana 130 back in the 2019's or 2020 ... That will just make everyone really mad who bought 2017 / 18 trucks .
Took a short trip down to Las Vegas with the wife yesterday, in the dually. With the hotter temps the rear end noise has gotten worse. On our way back home I stopped at the Ford dealship 45 miles south of where we live. I was able to catch one of the service managers and take them for a quick ride to show them the rear end noise. He was a little shocked to hear the noise, as my truck only has 5000 miles, and said they haven’t had too many rear diff issues but also admitted they don’t sell many duallys. So at least I have a dealership who agrees there’s a problem and I’ll bring it down to them next week. Will report back on the findings and or solutions.
We just got a whiner here 2017 f-450 at my shop one of the other guys at my shop 27k got clunk and whining ,,, guys going to take it in . Starting to look like the m300 is crap compared to the Dana 113s .

Sucks to hear that! I’m giving my local dealer one more chance to rectify my rear end whine issue, the reality of driving to another state just to get the truck fixed isn’t going to happen. I drove the truck and took one of their techs for a ride and he heard the hi pitched whine at 68-70 mph where it’s the loudest. Said they’ll open an RO on it and see what they can find out on research. I’d like t(em to pop the cover, check for metal flake in oil, check back, ash and do a gear compound pattern check. I’m go8ng to print out info from this post and some others as evidence that these M300’s do have some issues.
either way, i think you have better chance of winning lotto than getting new axle assembly
After months of dealing with a weeping vent bung Ford finally shipped an entire replacement axle. Hopefully this issue will be put to bed once and for all.
Bom sticker.
Seeing this axle out if the truck makes it easy to see how beefy it is. Makes a dana 80 look like a toy.
You aren't kidding. Is that an F450 replacement axle or an F350 dually?
From what I understand the 350’s (DRW obviously) have the same rear end as the 450’s with the exception of the shafts which are bigger on the 450’s. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong.

F350, same as yours.

Hope so too. There are many that don't, so whoever is on that one shift is screwing up the patterns. After the dealer tech set-up the gears, my truck was silent at all speeds, coast and decel.

Yep, same center section and gears, only two differences are axle shaft diameter and the F-350 tube necks down to 4" towards the brake flange, where the F450+ are full 4.5". I'd go on to say this housing would actually deflect less than the S110 due to the massive Iron truss, and thicker wall section, seamless tubes. GCWR exceeds the s110 rating of 35000 lbs.
Axle has been installed for a week with good results so far. Silent and leak free.
Great to hear the good news! Keep us posted on any changes. I’m still waiting to hear back from my local dealer. Going to give them 3 strikes and then move on.
